Yes! I thought my layers would eat the oyster shell and my non-layer would pick around it. But I will take your advice and stop mixing it together! Thank you.
It's now been over a week with no sign of an egg, but she's acting the same as always so I'm trying not to worry. I have 3 Buff Orpington hens total. The coop is big - an old converted shed about 8x8ft. The run is about 20x20.
Hi, All!
I have a 2-year-old Buff Orpington hen. She started laying eggs after taking a break for winter about 2 weeks ago. She was laying eggs almost every day. Suddenly, she stopped. She has not laid an egg in a week. I just took her to the vet for a routine check-up and she was pronounced in...
I just got my girl, Thyme, a hormone implant back in August. She was very swollen and lost all her feathers on her butt. The vet suspects a reproductive disease or complication (she's had reproductive infections previously). She is 18 months old.
After two months, Thyme has lost over a half...
Here are some better pics. You can see there is a distinct line on her beak and near her skin it looks very dry and maybe peeling. Is that concerning? Totally normal?
These are the best I could get this morning. She doesn't like my phone and kept backing away. 😂 You can kind of see where it looks like it is maybe peeling/dry where the beak meets her skin? The cracks or maybe scratches are so fine they don't show up.
Hello!
My girl Thyme has a hormone implant and will not lay eggs again (she has reproductive issues). I am not sure what to feed her and the flock (2 other Buff Orpingtons, all 18 months old).
Knowing all the calcium in layer feed would hurt her now, I've switched the flock to Nutrena 18%...
My chicken, Thyme's, scales have turned very dark. It looks like there is a lot of dirt between them, but a month ago her scales were healthy. I assumed scaly leg mite, so I have been applying Vaseline and doing Epsom salt soaks.
She also has bumblefoot. I took her to the vet 2.5 weeks ago to...
Update: Rosemary is back to her old self! It turns out the antibiotic she was on was making her sick. The vet had me stop that prescription and she bounced back almost immediately. It's been a few weeks out now and she's back to being my little shadow and demanding snuggles every day. :)
My sweet baby Rosemary is the best girl. She runs after me, hops up on my arm whenever I hold it out as a perch, and snuggles under my arm anytime she gets a chance. Or, she did. I had to start administering antibiotics a few days ago and she is now wary of me. I do it in the dark twice a day...
