What meat chickens should I raise? What's the differences?

I am doing my homework to add some meat chickens to my layers in the Spring. This is an excellent thread.

It is a crazy world and it seems so many people are on the edge of breakdowns for lots of reasons. So sad.

Chick chick chick brought them high tailing their little feathers out of the woods tonight and right into the pen. They either wanted the seeds I tossed or they learned last night it is nicer to come than be wrangled! I felt this proud surge of success :)

I did have treats but perhaps not what they wanted or they had filled up on popcorn while they were out at the movies. I read someone uses a red cup for their treats to signal them to go in. WE just need more practice I suppose or yummier treats. I will get some scratch.

Okay, remember I am a new chicken owner and green as can be. My chicks were hatched late March and a I decided it is time to let them roam a bit outside their fenced area. Last evening I opened the gate and it made me smile as they flapped their wings and dashed out into the woods and field that...

Swagger is registered ASDR, NSDR and AKC. His eyes are CERF clear, PRA normal and MDR1 normal. All my girls have hips OFA clear including his dam which I own and also his sire.

Enola, my little stud is approx 13" and about 13-15 pounds. I showed him as a Toy Aussie when he was younger but he has grown and I think might now tiptoe to be a small end mini. He is a great little dog and super athletic. His genetics give me some pups that mature out his size and some taller.

Granny, This is my girl that will be whelping late July. This is my little stud dog, Swagger. He isn't the sire of my upcoming litter because I want a keeper female to breed back to him.

Dannachic, we live in central KY. We have family in Clay Co. I am new to the chicken world, have 6 RSS (now I know) I bought as babies at TSC in late March. I got them for fresh eggs. Maybe sometime I will do some meat chickens but would have to have help processing. I remember my grandmother...

Since I read up through Dec 2014 and would like to read the rest up to now, how do u jump to a certain page without scrolling through? That would take forever. I enjoy the banter and everyone's stories.

Granny, I breed and sometimes show mini and toy Aussies. I currently have 4 breeding females, my little stud and one older spayed girl who is the mother of my stud dog. Just a hobby breeder but still trying to do it right. I haven't let my chickens free range yet so might be interesting since...

Hi Dannachic! What chickens do you have? East, west, north or south in KY? I did find a good post about using the pea sized dollop" of Safeguard paste for horses. That sounds a lot easier to me than catching everyone and using a syringe.

    Worming with Horse Wormer

Very informative discussion. I lean toward using a paste for ease of administration and this info was what I have been looking for. I am a country girl but new to the chicken world. I have young chickens hatched in late March. Preventive now? Or wait until they start laying? Or later, next...

So I wasn't so far off, production reds = egg layers. Haha. But I'm sad because I didn't get on BYC before I got them because they look so much alike I don't even have the fun of naming them. But, that gives me an excuse to get some more :). Another question from a post in this...
