Why won’t they use their ramp ?

I use a stair/step ladder in my coop, which the chicks and hens hop up. Instead of buying a non-stick product, I simply mixed a handful of sand into paint and applied it to each step.

Free Chickens in Los Angeles, 17 weeks, Cochin Serama

Hello all! I have 3 chickens to rehome from my flock. Two are apparently bantam/tiny buff laced serama hens and one is a sweet rooster. all are available for free in Los Angeles (91311) and are about 17 weeks old. The serama hens were hatched and raised by their mom (last photo below) which...

Picture Of The Week (POW) Information & Submissions

My sebright (buff sebright?) proving an exception to the stereotype of her breed not being great broodies. She stagger hatched 5/5 eggs and happily stayed on a false egg until I could slip a sixth (frizzle) chick under at night in day 23(ish).

Wow, looks beautiful there! Is all that green a result of the rains we have been having?

SoCal Mille Fleur Rooster POLITE 10 mo old

I have and awesome Mille Fleur rooster (10mo old) in need of a new home. I would keep him but the crowing is not working out for us. He is true to his breed - very polite and attentive to the hens - he does not force himself on the hens unless they acquiesce, and he does not pull feathers. He is...

Thank you, I appreciate your message and you sharing your reasoning. I plan to still let them out since I also feel like it’s better for their health, but I’ll probably do it during the times I’m outside with them.

Big bummer today - I lost my favorite hen, Christmas - a white silkie frizzle, to a coyote. She was one of my first hens and was an amazing broody and mother who would hatch eggs and take on adoptions. I got too comfortable leaving the chickens out of the run to roam around since i had preferred...

Hello SoCal folks! I may have to rehome my awesome little rooster, identified as a Mille Fleur (d’Uccle?) bantam when I got him from Kahouts (5/6/2023). He is super polite and watchful over the hens. The big girls don’t let him mate with them, and he rarely mates with the couple of other bantam...

Best BB gun model for rat control?

I used a method I found on YouTube to great success. Essentially building a multi-stall rat trap, putting food in it for a couple nights (without setting the traps) so they get used to entering, then after confirming they are entering and eating, adding food again and a setting the traps the...

Chick With Eye Injury, Watery, Red

Just noticed one of my 5 week old chicks (cross silkie frizzle with mille fleur) has an eye injury. Appears watery and injured around the eye. Possibly pecked or is it some other sickness? This chick is one of 6 that were hatched by their mom, and we’re kept separate from the other hens with...
