    Cedar Chips

Using shavings here in the Pacific Northwest is not an option in the winter, so I use cedar chips. Chips don't absorb the daily rain which lasts for months, whereas shavings absorb the water and add to the mess of the mud. I get spanked all the time for using cedar chips by other chicken...

    Cedar Chips

There is so much conflicting information out there about using cedar chips in chicken coop. I'd like to know from those of you who do use cedar chips your experience and whether you've had health issues with using cedar. Thanks

Candling dark brown or blue eggs

Any tips on candling dark brown or blue eggs? The dark brown seems to absorb the light and the blue reflect.

    Humidity

Thank you kuchchicks for the reply. Great advice on keeping better records for myself so I can improve my hatching rates. My incubator is a forced air incubator in which I used two computer fans. This seems to be enough air to keep my temperature constant at around 95.5 to 100 degrees...

    Ring neck pheasants

Ah, good to know. Thank you. I made a special run for my pheasants, it was recommended that I put some tree branches in there for them to seek cover. Any recommendations here?

    custard ice cream recipe?

Thanks for checkin NorthFlChick. I'm headed back to STL later this month for a family visit. I'll eat a concrete shake in your honor. Oh, and if I find good recipe, I'll pass it along your way.

    Ring neck pheasants

I hatched 10 pheasants from 12 eggs (highest hatch rate from any chickens I've incubated) and am looking for any good advice on raising pheasants. These little critters are fast, yet very skittish. They seem to like to eat their feed off the ground and not in a chicken feeder. Do these little...

    Adding onto existing coop

Does anyone any good advice for adding nesting boxes onto an existing coop, or possibly just adding some nesting boxes for hens to roost in at night? I don't want to go through he expense of building a larger coop, but would like to add some hens.

    custard ice cream recipe?

Any favorite recipes for custard ice cream? I'm from St. Louis and Ted Drew's is the best custard EVER. Anyone familiar with a concrete custard shake? I miss this custard and am desperate to find something I can make that is similar. :)

    Humidity

I made a cabinet incubator and I'm seeking advice on humidity rates. I have had 4 hatches and I am getting variable hatch rates but I can not determine if it is from varying humidity. I have tried 40 percent humidity for the first 18 days then raising to 75-85 percent for two hatches and 25...

I just hatched two of these little beauties a few days ago. Out of 7 eggs 4 viable, one fully developed and one underdeveloped. I will definitely add more to my flock

    Advice on Sour crop

Two days ago I noticed my favorite OE had a large crop and was very lethargic. I did some internet research and found that she may have sour crop so I massaged her crop upward towards her head and she vomited a very smelly discharge with a little grass. This morning she seemed better, but when...

Oh, that's good to know about the air cells, I did not know that. Thanks for the ray of hope. :)

    Sending eggs via USPS

Yes, I'm hoping that the remaining eggs air cell's are still intact. The eggs that were shipped to me are supposed to be Araucana, I'm looking to add the rumpless, tufted chickens to my small flock.
