A labor of Love (finally a few pics)

My building supply called it T 111 3/8 plywood ext siding. It is a plywood that has a rough finish on the outside and is grooved about every 6 inches giving it a pattern. The edges are cut so the pieces lap each other where they meet. It was just under $12.00 per 4'x8' sheet. It did soak up...

Coop Design - Need some feedback!

You are headed in the right direction. I am certainly no expert but just completed my coop and you may pick up some ideas from my post "A Labor of Love" Take a look and see if that will help you some as I posted a link in that thread of the website where I found my base plans. Also, notice...

Thanks so much for the comments. I used a continuous roof rige vent system on the very top of the roof. You can see how it sticks up on the top. The soffits are open and will have screen in them in a day or two. The system is used on many houses in my area. The air enters through the soffits...

    Taken into consideration...coop cleaning!

I am relatively new here but I have a wooden floor made of 3/4 treated decking. I primed it with a premium primer and put on 2 coats of paint. I also cut my floor about 8 inches short down one side of the house and used another piece of wood attached to a "piano style" continuous hinge. I can...

Quote: The woods are pretty heavy around the house and we really want a ton of ferns and hostas filling up all the areas that I have recently cleaned up. I can also see a bench and/or some outdoor furniture out there so we can just sit and watch them. However, our friends Mr. and Mrs. Mosquito...

The landscaping was part of my agreement with my Wife to be sure the house was attractive to some degree. It is visible from our kitchen window and she wanted to be sure it was not an eyesore that she would be seeing everyday. She is out of town right now and will be completing the landscaping...

A labor of Love (finally a few pics)

Quote: I have not added it all up yet but I had a buddy give me the shingles and felt paper and neighor donated the windows along with a few other supplies. I was also able to use some left overs from when my house was built about 15 years go, so I saved a few dollars in the process. My...

Quote: Considering it took me several Saturdays to complete this project, you likely could not afford to house and feed me while I built it. My progress was very slow. Unlike a good carpenter who measures twice and cuts once, I measured twice and cut twice or three times. Here is a link to...

A labor of Love (finally a few pics)

We have finally completed our hen house to go with our run. I am 47 and this is the first thing I have ever built in my life that did not have a motor in it. I will have to give credit to a very nice family who posted their plans and pics on a website they call "the chicken project". I used...

We put the chicks in the run and hen house today for a little while to test the hens reaction. She did ok but went after them a couple of times. It seems she was saying, this is my house, get out. I will have to wait another week or two before I can put them in there on their own. I plan to...

Ok, I will try it. These are some pics of my chicks Buff Orps about 2 days after we got them. My Wife has a good digital camera and loves taking pics like this. Not working, I will try again later. I have never been known for my tech skills. First day at the post office...

Am I correct, the only way to post pics is from a website like snapfish or photobucket?

We are now about 4 weeks into our Buff Orp chicks and they are getting more beautiful by the day. We will be moving them from our house to their house pretty soon. I could not find any locally so we ordered them from My Pet Chicken and they are healthy, active and very pretty. Thia gives us...

Plain Yogurt, a cure for runny poo?

I attempted the search but could not find any info. I have a hen with occasional runny poo. My wife read on a website that plain yogurt is a good treat for them and would help regulate their system. Can anyone confirm this or add any comments? Thanks for your help, Trey
