    Please help identify breed...

Thanks everyone, I agree she looks like all the pics I found on Black Star sex links. I still found absolutely nothing on any Australian website, so maybe they aren't that common here. Lucky me!

    Please help identify breed...

Thanks! I've never heard of Black Stars. I'm in Australia, maybe we call it something else here, I'll look into it.

    Please help identify breed...

Hi, I hope these pictures show enough to help someone identify what breed this chicken may be. Just bought her today at auction. Single comb, very thick dark legs, not sure what the thing that hangs down at her lower neck is but it's quite low down and feathered.

Rooster just wasted away - any ideas?

Similar thing happened to me last week. I bought two Plymouth Rock Hens at the same time when they were only a few months old. Many months later one was double the size of the other. The smaller one just never grew. Ate and drank and seemed healthy until the other day when it became...

why do we NOT hang water for the hens like we do w/ crumble/feed?

I hang food and water away from the perches - no poop or litter gets in and they never spill it.

When do you change your coop bedding? How often?

I've read about only cleaning the coop out every 6-12 months with the deep litter method. How easy is that! I hope mine can last that long. Of course I'll change it if it gets too on the nose, but we are about to start our summer here in Australia and it should be pretty dry.

When do you change your coop bedding? How often?

Hi I'm new to all this, but I've started off with the deep litter method and am VERY happy so far. After reading numerous threads on this site about the success people have had with deep litter I thought it was worth a try. I'll admit, I only have seven chickens in the coop, and they're...

Another novice needs help with breed & gender ID...

Thanks everyone. The boys will live a happy life on my sisters large property (no roosters allowed where i live), and the three girls that remain will need three new friends! I think 6 hens will give us enough eggs for the family as well as some to share. Daisy (might change that name to...

Has anyone bought one of these coops?

If cost is a factor, can you find a carpenter or handy friend to copy the design and make it for you? That way you could modify it how ever you like and make it perfect for your needs. Tina Australia

Another novice needs help with breed & gender ID...

Thanks, still don't know if the comb is normal? Don't really know what breed or gender these are either: Heidi Jenni Rosie Hannah Georgie

Another novice needs help with breed & gender ID...

Hi, Can anyone give me a good guess on what breed and gender Daisy might be? Also, does her/his comb look normal? I think Daisy is about seven or eight weeks old. She was one of six I bought at a local poultry auction. Will post pics of the other five soon for help also.
