First time with meat birds. Roosters?

I have some roosters that were supposed to be hens so going to process them. Does anyone know if there are foods to feed them so they taste better? They are a year old. Pressure cooker at the ready. :)

    Let's talk Wry Neck/Crook Neck

I actually don't now for certain how old she is - but she is an adult hen. She is able to eat and drink but just holds her head sideways and shakes it frequently. I have her separated from the rest of the flock. I will get her some electrolytes today and see if she wants some scrambled eggs as...

    Let's talk Wry Neck/Crook Neck

I have had chickens for many years and have never heard of anything like this. Two days ago I found one of my hens in the coop with her head turned sideways. She would shake her head - almost like she has water in her ear. She'll sometimes even turn it entirely upside down. My first impression...

    Consolidated Kansas

Is there a market at all for roos? I have 5 approx. 6 month old fellas that I think are 'easter eggers' that I really do not need. Last I heard there was a ban on selling chickens at swap meets. Is that ban lifted yet in Kansas?

    What to feed them?

I have 2 broodies with a total of 24 eggs under them that are due to hatch next Sunday. I am going to leave them with their 'mama's separate from the rest of the flock. I am not sure what to feed them all. Should I feed chick feed and the hens can have that as well?

    Mean guinea

My guineas have always gotten along fairly well. Oh they'd occasionally have spats but nobody would be harmed much. Last night when putting everyone to bed, one of my white guinea males was all bloody around his head. I put him in a large dog kennel with some water in the coop to keep him away...

    Broody Hen Thread!

I have a broody that's been sitting for 22 days. I am Not sure if any the eggs are fertile or not. Does anybody know what is the longest time I should let her go before I take the eggs away from her?

    Raising Guinea Fowl 101

Very interesting. I think it would be fun to have them raised by their mama since this is the only time i have ever had them lay anywhere even near the coop. However broody chickens seem to be quite a bit more reliable.

    Raising Guinea Fowl 101

Thanks, granny. I may just take out the possibility of letting her raise them. I have a broody chicken that should be hatching some chicks next week. I may try to catch the guinea hatch and put them in with the broody and her lil ones. There will be a week or so difference in age but id hate to...

    Raising Guinea Fowl 101

I have had guineas for several years. I have incubated their eggs and raised keets and put guinea eggs under broody chickens and raised keets. Now, I have a guinea sitting on a nest of guinea eggs in my coop. I have never allowed any of my guineas to hatch out keets. All of their nests have been...

show me your dog crate baby brooders

I have a broody sitting on 20 eggs. I am hoping that i can use my dog kennel like on here for her to hatch her brood. I would like to cover it with hardware mesh to keep snakes out. Would this be large enough for a week or two for all of them? I just need to let them grow some so they can be big...
