I love the variety we have with our mixed flock. All the birds get along well and have such unique personalities. Plus, I get lots of colorful eggs! Our favorite breeds so far are Orpington, Wyandotte, Australorp and Easter Egger. They are wonderful with our kids and all our friends. The white...
It really has been a wonderful experience for all of us. Good to know that it is normal for those things to happen. I’m pretty new to this so I had no clue what to think about it! Thank you!
My Easter Egger has been laying for two weeks. She went a day without laying a few days ago, but has been back to laying daily for the last few days. Today there were two eggs from her! My kids love checking for eggs and check for them multiple times a day! Like, anytime they hear a chicken in...
She is not very low in the pecking order. She is a very friendly hen and has always gotten along with the others. She is smaller than the others, but it never seemed to matter. I think maybe she got scratched by a mesquite tree or something? She has started slowly opening her eye a bit. It seems...
Today we found one of our girls laying in the coop, under her roost, with a scratched eye. No clue what happened. We have cleaned it with water and put an ointment on it. She isn’t eating and barely drinking and is very lethargic. I put her into a crate with her own food and water and brought...
These will be 7weeks this Monday! I thought the one with the larger comb was potentially my roo. But it has the lighter colored chest. So, is the one with the smaller comb and black chest the roo??
Thank you! I thought so too and have been wondering for awhile. Now the differences are much more prominent to me. I will be so excited if I have one of each!
I ordered the Meyer Hatchery fry pan bargain and these two Welsummer were in there. One is definitely a roo with some beautiful coloring coming in on his feathers and a large comb and wattles coming in. The other one has a much smaller and paler comb. Could it possibly be a hen??
Hello! I bought some roosters from Meyer Hatchery. They are all 3weeks old now. I know 2 are golden buff and 2 are looking to be barred rocks. Another 2 look to be white leghorns. Any clue what these are? I’m thinking Welsummer?? It was part of their fry pan bargain if that helps. Thanks!
Ours is on a non-medicated starter. They were all vaccinated. I checked again today and it seems to be healing a bit more. I wonder if the others may have been pecking at it?
This chick, Rosie, had pasty butt from the beginning. We cleaned her every day with a cotton swab and warm water. She is now almost 4 weeks old and her vent looks like it is still a little bloody and dirty. We continue to clean, but is there something else I am missing? She is developing more...
