2 Welsh Harlequin drakes, 7 weeks old, sf Bay Area

Im not possitive, but based on voice, I think they're both drakes. No curly tail feathers yet. They were hatched by one of my broody ducks from Metzer farms fertile eggs, but we don't have room to keep them. We hand reared them, they'll eat out of your hand and they're very pretty. They're...

    Welch Harlequin Babies

Its been a long time since I've posted here. Since we have new babies I thought I'd share our story. We got 3 runner girls about 6 years ago and hand raised them from day old ducklings. One of them hatched fertile eggs we snuck under her when she got broody, about 3 years ago at age 3. So after...

Could this weird claw cause a limp?

A late update. I took her into the vet. The vet found one toe bone that was out of place and a swollen hip, (she thought that was a secondary injury caused by walking funny because of the sore toe) the vet massaged the toe back into place and presribed an ani-inflamitory. After a week she was...

    New here...lots of questions!

I use shavings for deep litter in the coop. For food and water, I use a large high sided stoneware bowl for their food. With the high sides they spill a lot less, and don't climb in it to poop in the food. The water is a mess of course! But it helps to keep the food and water apart, mine are...

Could this weird claw cause a limp?

Yep, those babies are so fast! I checked the foot again yesterday. There really doesn't seem to be any issue with her foot. The calluses are the same on both feet and there are no tender spots or thorns. I felt the whole thing really well. I am wondering now if it could be her hip? The...

Could this weird claw cause a limp?

I was holding her while my DH felt her foot, he couldn't feel anything. But I'll check the callus areas again tomorrow am in case it's swelling instead. I'll keep you posted. Could you see the limp in the video?

Could this weird claw cause a limp?

Hi all, thanks for reading! Let me give you all the info. My black runner is 9 weeks old. She is fed Mazuri waterfowl starter mixed with maintenance and regular treats. We did niacin suplimints but stopped when we started the mazuri waterfowl feed. The duck run is floored with shavings, as is...

    Confused Buff hens?

I have only females and they all take turns mounting each other. They do the tail tuck like what you describe too. I've heard from a number of others that theirs do the same. I believe it's normal duck behavior and it certainly doesn't affect their laying or anything like that. It could be...

Are these duck eggs even fertile?

Runners are $2.98 each. Minimum charge is $29 + $5 for packaging + shipping. Not sure if that is spendy or not. http://www.metzerfarms.com/HatchingEggs.cfm?CustID=5858402

Are these duck eggs even fertile?

Metzer has runners. My broody duck hatched out 5 runner ducklings from their eggs this spring. 2 eggs didn't hatch with 1 or both being quitters, so high fertility rate, they refund for less than 80% fertility.

do ducks prefer shallow or deep swimming spots?

We have an old bathtub that the ducks love, it's deep enough for diving, and the also sleep floating in it. It's half buried with an earthen ramp that they can use to get in and out. But like @needlessjunk says, fresh water is their favorite. We only change the bath once or twice a week but they...
