Hi all, thanks for reading! Let me give you all the info. My black runner is 9 weeks old. She is fed Mazuri waterfowl starter mixed with maintenance and regular treats. We did niacin suplimints but stopped when we started the mazuri waterfowl feed. The duck run is floored with shavings, as is their coop. We've noticed a slight limp, for the past week or so, but couldn't find any reason for it. Her leg feels fine, her foot looks and feels fine. Today we noticed one toe nail is thicker than the others. Also we saw on closer observation that she seems to walk on her tip toe on that foot and stand crooked with the weight off that foot. Here is a photo and video. Please let me know if you have any guesses as to causes.

Sorry this was the best picture I could get today, but you can see the middle nail is thick and lighter colored.
Here is the video trying to get her walk and stance. If needed I can try to get a better video and photo tomorrow.

Did you feel all over the bottom of her foot for possible splinter? I'm not sure if the nail would cause her to walk like that and limp, looking at this pic look down to the right of her foot is that a swollen place looks like a round swollen place. right side down below nail where foot meets leg? that maybe the problem.

I was holding her while my DH felt her foot, he couldn't feel anything. But I'll check the callus areas again tomorrow am in case it's swelling instead. I'll keep you posted. Could you see the limp in the video?

Yes I could even though they were fast little things. lol It could be the callus is making her limp too it looks pretty big in the pic, but you know how pics can distort.

Yep, those babies are so fast!

I checked the foot again yesterday. There really doesn't seem to be any issue with her foot. The calluses are the same on both feet and there are no tender spots or thorns. I felt the whole thing really well.

I am wondering now if it could be her hip? The babies were eating layer food without me realizing it for a while (I thought it was too high for them, but they grow so fast!) Do you think too much calcium while growing could have messed her hip up? Since I can't find anything acute I may just wait a little longer and see if it is a strain that goes away. Otherwise I'll bite the bullet and pay for a vet visit.

Could be, you could add some Brewers yeast to their feed and see if that helps.1 Tab to 1 cup of feed, if you don't notice any change in say a week or it gets worse then a vet maybe in order.
Keep us updated

A late update. I took her into the vet. The vet found one toe bone that was out of place and a swollen hip, (she thought that was a secondary injury caused by walking funny because of the sore toe) the vet massaged the toe back into place and presribed an ani-inflamitory. After a week she was still limping though maybe not as much. And I wasn't doing a great job getting the meds in her. At the 1 week re-check her toe was still in the proper place so the vet showed me how to make sure I got all the meds in her, upped the dosage a little and said to check back in 2 weeks if not better. I'm already seeing some improvement now that she's getting the meds properly. Fingers crossed I don't have to go back in! We already skipped our wedding anniversary date to cover vet bills
