I have a question. Anybody who has white egg layers and sells their eggs ever have anybody question if you were selling them store bought eggs? I only have brown layers so never thought about it. I could see a naive person assuming that white eggs only come from commercial sources and...
My son just came in and our tom apparently snatched a feed sack string and "gobbled" it up. Granted I know there is little to be done now that it's down the hatch. What's the likely hood of it causing major problems? I figure they probably eat all kinds of strange things we are oblivious to...
Just curious when cochins typically start laying. I have a variety of 16ish week old pullets. Cochins and others. I think I've started getting some pullet eggs but not figured out who of the 20 something young ladies it might be. I also have several Blue Laced Red Wyandotte pullets so could...
Racoon has been dispatched. Trap is now set nightly with a variety of offerings no racoon or possum can refuse. We caught the coon just a few hours after the terrible incident with the Fayoumi. Caught a possum the second night. Live trap is tripped during the day while the chickens run in...
Damn coon ripped a leg off my only Egyptian Fayoumi tonight. He wasn't able to get in the coop but my 3.5 month old birds still huddle on the ground and they were to close to the edge and he managed to grab ones leg and pulled the entire leg off the bird. Clean off at the hip. She's still...
Subject pretty well states my question.
Once hatched how long before you HAVE to take them out and put into the brooder?
I've read to wait until they ALL hatch. We have 20+ candled and set to hatch Sunday. Turns out we may actually not actually get to be here but will have someone...
Just a few days left on my hatch. Temperature has stayed consistent and humidity stayed correct. Being the last few days I added some water to the bottom of bator to increase the humidity. Well it condensated. Not sure if that is a problem in of it's self but think some of the condensation...
My current flock consists of a variety of some red "cage free" commercial cull hens (not sure what breed) that lay HUGE eggs. Then also some Favorelles, Delaware, Barred Rock, several Wyandotes and soon some Cochins pullets.
Our current rooster is a Delaware and we have eggs set to hatch...
That's always been my assumption at least about extras being males. Anytime I've ever ordered the "extras" have always been roosters. Can't complain. I usually keep one and beg someone to take the others.
Really think it's going to be an Egyptian Fayoumis. A picture that someone posted a few years ago of a 4.5 week old. Looks exactly like my bird.
Kind of exciting. Didn't t hink I'd get some rare breed. Figured they'd throw in a standard run of the coop chicken. Now to wait and see if...
I have considered a Fayoumi. It was very pretty dark rich colored for a "wild type" pattern as a chick. I probably have a picture on my phone somewhere.... It's the only one that narrows down through process of elimination.
However I once got a Salmon Favorelle without any face furnishings...
4 Weeks old. Was free surprise chick when ordering from McMuarry. It "looks" like an Easter Egger but McMuarry doesn't list them as one of their varieites. Wouldn't an Ameracaucana need to have muffs? It's a smaller size bird but not quite bantam kind of small.
