I thought about rot, but lots of people seem to just use plywood...seems like they would have the same issue right? Maybe I can weather proof it and that would help it last? Just going through ideas for the moment...

I also scored so wood laminate flooring today. I have 3 boxes of it, anyone ever use wood laminate for a hen house floor? Of course I would cover it with shavings but I thought it would be easy to clean.

K wow you do have a flock lol. I'm hoping to avoid chicken math. I think if it gets really hot I'll put a fan in the coop and maybe try the wading pool method. I really wanted mixed so I could tell them apart :) I'm still working on coop plans and how I'm going to put everything together.

It's like one sheet of chain link stretched around the frame. So I can't take off none end. I think I'm going to have to cut a hole and frame it. Has anyone else done that?

    dog kennel attachment

So I'm planning on building a hen house and attaching it to my dog kennel as a run. I'm wondering how others attached their houses to the kennels? Did you cut a hole in the chain link? Did you just bend the wires? Seems that would be difficult. Not sure how to have my hen house pop door open...

    another playhouse to coop construction

I was planning on attaching the elevated coop to the outside of the run with a little door so they would have both spaces available. The run has some shade trees so it's always pretty shady there, it actually doest get any direct sun. They will be let out into our 3/4 acre yard probably daily...

How big would the coop need to be with a 6x10 run? Should it be 6x4...someone elsewhere told me that was pretty big for 7 hens?

No I live near austin. I knew I would need ventilation. I want them to be comfortable so I'll start planning to build one. I still have a couple months or so before they will need it. They won't get here until the end of october.
