Hi! Glad to find someone else who is interested in the breed. I think I may have to order mine from a hatchery. Either MM or Performance poultry. But so far the only info I can find them is in my grandfather's SOP from 1973. But at least it is a starting point. I'm hoping to order a few in...
So if a Canadian gal was interested In getting a trio of these birds, preferably not hatchery stock, does anyone know where I might look to get/import some? Or perhaps even some hatching eggs?
Thanks!
Most of my chickens are still juveniles, but I do have an adult barred rock who may start a fight. But I think she is more upset with momma starting to walk around the coop. I don't know if a pecking order has been established between them yet. But I have to move the hen to actually see the...
My hen was fenced off inside the coop. I took the fence down today as the chicks were getting through it and momma was stuck. So I removed it so she could protect the chicks if need be. So far the have been fine, I'll be worried about them all night though
I bought a broody EE hen with her eggs a couple of weeks back. I thought the move stressed her out and she was always kicking the eggs out and seemed to be off the nest all the time the first couple of days. I thought they werent going to hatch and I should pull them out, but I am so glad I did...
Oh so nice! I love the little ones. im thinking of going with an incubator. My broody just hatched 1/6 eggs. He is going to be the most pame red little chick.
Are any of you guys still working on this breed? I think I've gained some good info by reading through the thread. And I'm planning to put in an order for some redcap chicks this January.
So will my sight barrier have to go the whole way up the side of the run, say, all 6ft. Or do you think 3ft would work.
My Inlaws run a lumber mill. It helps a lot with building stuff, Especially chicken coops. I can get all the rejected boads
Hi guys,
I was wondering how your guys house your breeding birds? I am thinking of building some coops with attached runs for the birds. And I'm thinking of keeping 4-5 hens per rooster to try and help avoid over breeding. Has anyone had any success with a system like this? And can I keep the...
Hey all,
I am wanting to start working with the redcap chickens. But I am having a hard time finding any breeders, let alone any in Canada. Im thinking my best bet for getting some stock will be through a hatchery. Is there anyone on here who is working with the breed? Or trying to breed them...
