hmmm, it's a bit like asking if you will like your new neighbours when moving house.
they might get on, they might not.
i hatched some embdens and some chickens around the same time. initially the chickens bullied the geese. they used to run away terrified of these little pecky monsters until...
the fact it is white does make it more desirable for retailers as mentioned above by the goose girl; the reason embden geese tend to be the preferred supplier is because they have far more of it.
that's not to say other goose down is in any way inferior with regards to thermal value, embdens...
i'm no expert on geese, it looks to me like one greylag at the front right and 3 crossbreeds. lovely looking gooseys in my opinion (not that i'm bias toward geese in any way). it's pretty tricky to tell from the one picture though.
thank you, you are very kind.
it kind of says in a picture how i view most things in life.
i like your one too, it's kinda cute and in your face at the same time!
depending on what geese they are, it is not uncommon for the larger domestic varieties to live 25 years. one will hear tales of geese that have lived double that, however my guess is that someone owned a goose for around the 25 year mark then it died whilst they were away and someone replaced it...
one of my girls didn't start sitting until she had about 15 eggs in her clutch.
i say "about" because there were 2 geese laying in the same nest and i didn't get to count them for a couple of days before she finally gave in and decided it was time.
it's been 28 days now since she first started...
like others have said, it's a training thing.
i kept my geese inside the kitchen until they were around 12 weeks old. by then they were way too big to stay indoors any longer, and the mess each morning was horrendous.
teaching them they had a new home was a little tricky.
initially they...
my embdens were like my shadow for about 12 weeks. they still adore having company with humans but mostly do their own thing.
after 12ish weeks they started exploring further, however i find they are a bit like autistic kids and don't welcome change very easily.
my daughter broke her leg about a...
embdens are generally all white.
saying that, young geese can have the odd dark feather.
i have only ever seen the dark feathers on female geese and it has only ever been one or two feathers rather than a lot of them.
they have always been in the larger wing and tail feathers and have looked...
a few years ago we hatched some chickens and some geese. the chickens arrived before the geese and bullied the young goslings, pecking at their eyes and generally pushing them around. initially the goslings were terrified of the chickens and run away if they could, however, as the geese got...
Hi all, it's been a while since my last post. top pic is of Ronnie hatching last year, the bottom one is her giving me some goosey love last week.
the two girls, Ronnie and Constance have laid well this year. unfortunately a fox took about 9 eggs as they had laid them in the field. i was waiting...
these are my babies a few weeks ago.
the one to the left is Constance and the one on the right is Ronnie, my two girls.
the one in the middle is Reggie and Mr Nebbercracker is obscured at the back.
if you look at the girl's heads they are quite sleek and refined, whereas Reggie's head is bigger...
are you certain that you have a male there?
they both look real slender and quite feminine from the picture.
the males are considerably bigger than females, they have quite a thick neck and almost chiselled jawline.
the females look quite petite in comparison.
Hi, congratulations on your new geese. Embdens are absolutely gorgeous, although I may well be accused of being bias in my opinion.
I hatched three this year and a buddy bought me another female to pair them off.
the hatchers are a lot friendlier, although Constance, the new one, is pretty good...
thanks for the reply.
I will give the hose therapy a go.
yesterday I bought a large realistic looking scorpion and stuck that up there to deter her, she just pecked it and threw it off the window sill. the geese then picked it up and ran away with it.
took me quite a while to get it back as they...
