Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I still find it hard to get all four of my chooks in a photograph, but I discovered they will come to the camera if I video them. :love

    Any musicians around?

Porch Bach organ music? Nice. :thumbsup Yes, the mountain dulcimer is a string instrument in the zither family. It's an American folk instrument. The one I play in the video I posted above is a cross between a banjo and a dulcimer. The builder called it a dulcijo. In the picture below, I'm...

    Any musicians around?

I'm a folk musician/folk artist and joined this website recently, as about six months ago I became a chook mum for the first time. I did a little search to see if there are any dulcimer players here and found this thread. I play mountain dulcimer and sing with my husband. As a music duo we call...

I love it! I had no idea I would bond with them so well. I have always loved birds and other animals, but I never knew I would love chickens so much.

I have four Isa Brown chooks. It's hard to get them all in one photograph! Edited to add: Sorry, I'm just trying to share how many chooks I have, but I can't figure out who to reply to. I'm sort of new at forum discussions. Lovely pic of the five, though. ;)

Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hi Folks, I'm new to this forum and to raising chickens. I found this thread in a response to my introduction post. My husband, Adrian Kosky, and I adopted/rescued four chickens in May 2020 in Daylesford, Vic. He's got the experience, and I'm learning how to care for chooks. So far, so good...

I'm a Happy New Chicken-Mum in Daylesford, Australia

Thank you for the welcome! Yes, my girls are hard workers still. They were laying four eggs a day way in to winter, which I learned was unusual. I think they are happy! When I look back at pictures I took several months ago, I see that they were not as healthy looking when they arrived. They...

    Chickens eating eggs

Me, too! Today I walked in on one of my chickens eating an egg. It hasn't happened before. I really hope it was an accidental crack and just a tasting, but the chicken was really enjoying it and another one joined in the eating before I could get to the nest. I distracted them with meal worms...

I'm a Happy New Chicken-Mum in Daylesford, Australia

Thanks for the welcome! There's a lot of planning that goes in to the way my husband and I live. We will have a property manager/house sitter who will care for Sheila-Lou, Sheila-Jo, Sheila-Mae, and Sheila-Beth. That's the practical answer. I haven't figured out how I'll handle missing them...

    5 eggs from 4 hens?

I'm brand new at raising chickens and just joined this forum, but I have had five eggs from four chickens twice since I adopted my Isa Browns. I thought I might have overlooked an egg from a day before, but I keep track of how many eggs are laid each day and the five eggs came after days and...

    (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? (2) How many chickens do you have right now? (3) What breeds do you have? Yes, I'm new to chickens! My husband and I adopted/rescued four retired isa brown chickens in May 2020. My husband has had previous experience raising...
