My campbell ducks started molt in August-I think they are about done-they look beautiful in their new attire but alas my egg basket is bare. How long does the molt usually last? Will they need light to bring them back into laying status now that the days are shorter?

I'm just wondering if anyone uses an essential oil disinfectant for their incubator and/or hatching eggs? Or at least a natural disinfectant? Seems so many want organic chicks it hardly seems right to be using chemicals to clean their hatching environment.

The yard will be a fenced area but not a totally closed in yard with roof. A slide-up door would definitely be easier to open in snow then a people door, something I hadn't thought about.
