    This looks weird!! Crop?

Hi all, first-time chicken mama here. I have two baby chicks about 2 weeks old and I just noticed something strange looking on my Lavender Orpington when I picked her up. At first I thought it was some huge creepy abscess on her shoulder, but upon closer inspection I think it might be her full...

Thanks for the input! We actually did end up with a roo (“Edith”) and the lady who gave him a home also took our crossbeak as a companion! She lives in the country and has experience working with crossbeak so it was perfect. Glad yours is doing well!

Thank you for responding, I was 98% sure but just wanted to know if there was a sliver of hope

UPDATE: “Edith” our Welsummer is looking more like a roo every day. Anyone want to give me any hope that (s)he might be a pullet (or just further confirmation that I am correct) before I find him a new flock?? Sadly we can’t keep roosters in the city :hit Hope it’s ok that I’m tagging people...

Will do. I’ve been researching a lot so hopefully we will be able to help her live semi-normally. Glad you said pullet - in another thread (about just her) 2/3 said cockerel!

I figured but I’m hoping for early thoughts, because if multiple of them screamed “rooster” I’d want to order more ;) can’t keep the boys sadly :hit hopefully the pics are decent!!

And finally, Lady Mary. The only one I *shouldn’t* have to worry about at all as she is a Black Star/Sexlink. Friendly, smart, alert, my smallest chick from day 1. I thought she’d be boring looking but she’s actually really cute. Thanks so much for your help and feedback, everyone! :love

Orla is one of my prettiest chicks, a SLW. She was the bossiest chick at first but she has mellowed out a lot. Very cute, moderately friendly, quiet and reserved with the other chicks.

3 more to go! Here’s Peggy, the Columbian Wyandotte. I get 100% girl vibes from her. We called her “Piggy Peggy” when we first got her because every time you looked in the brooder, she would be eating  she has a very round body and big eyes. Feathering slowly. One of the friendlier girls.

Maple is my biggest chick, always has been. Another blue egg layer. She looks like a dinosaur between the hawklike face, alert eyes and thick dark legs. Not the friendliest, not the most standoffish.

Sadly no, we live in the suburbs! Wish I could though, I want a roo!

Fern is my WTG. One of my smaller chicks to start but she’s growing fast. She is hypervigilant, always has an eye on you. Fairly dominant, standoffish and quiet. She was the first one that I thought could be a boy but I don’t think that now. Thoughts?
