Great, mother hen stood on another egg possibly? This one hasn't had the membrane broken but it's a large crack on the side of the shell. Again no cheeping at all, is it possible for them to have simply not pipped yet or could they both be facing round the wrong way? Put that one in the...
I managed to look inside the aircell and it's head doesn't seem to be near it, it looked like it made a pip there in the shell at once stage but made another in the middle of the egg and then unziped the membrane there, causing it to bleed. It's no longer bleeding but there may be blood inside...
I don't have access to any veins, the membrian seems to be already quite dry and the movement is slowing. I still haven't heard a single sound from it. Is it advisable to use a needle or a pin to make a hole in the airsack? Where the membrain is broken seems far too far back and was probably...
I just went out to check on my chicken's eggs under my broody and found one chick finaly hatching but may have been stepped on or hurt by the mother as there was a fair bit of blood. I'd been incubating eggs also so I've placed it in the incubator. I can't see any of it's features appart from a...
Oh yes, they'll mate all the time. Even with their sisters and brothers. I've had every combo available from son + mum and father + daughter to brother + sister. This has caused many problems for the chicks that they make though, I've had 2 chicks from one clutch with deformed feet. So make...
Well despite me washing it off and helping it out it really's starting to look more normal now, it's opening its eyes and fluffing up nicely. Some patches where the glunk must have stayed she's not fluffing up but if what you say is true she'll work it off.
Ok, the deed is done. I gave her a warm bath and then gave her a quick blow dry before popping her back in the incubator. She looks cleaner but she's still weak and rolling about. Only time will tell now...
Wow, you sound like a very devoted chick rearer. The chick hasn't improved so I'm going to bath her and hope she gets better. I'll update this and inform you all on what's happening.
This was the 3rd day one of my eggs had been trying to hatched, she had made quite a bit of progress but she had started to dry and the egg was stuck to her. So I rolled up my sleeves and went in to help the poor thing, after I managed to peel away most of the membrain she was having a hard...
If they're both the same age I would suspect the black one to be a boy as his wing feathers aren't as well grown as the other one. But I can't help on the breeds and I doubt many people will until they get a bit older.
Aww cute chicks.
The ones with smaller wing feathers are more likely to be boys but I always guess wrong so maybe you can go on that advise and decide for your self which ones you think are male or female.
I' sorry about the time zones, it's morning over here. ^^'
I'm still inclined to see if it makes progress till midday, if it's still making progress I think I should leave it alone, if not I'll decide to help. Is this wise or m I just leaning on Mother Nature a bit too much?
