These are my first chicks. We are hoping they are all females. Because I have no experience in this I was hoping I could get your ideas as to what I might have. Here is a picture with all 6 chicks (side and front view of combs). They are 7 weeks old. Top 2 are barred rocks. Second two are EE's. Third two are RIR's. Thanks for your help in sexing these chicks.

I don't see any cockerels. If anyone I were to be iffy about, it would be the second Barred Rock. Otherwise, all girls.

I would venture that you have at least 1 BR boy and maybe the first EE too, although those are always hard to tell. In a few more weeks you'll be able to see if they're getting saddle feathers or not.

My OPINION is that they are all pullets. I can not say for certain. The comb on #2 is a little large for a pullet but is is not pink. The real test will be in a few more weeks to see if any of them start crowing.

1 is iffy it depends on that color if it darker then yes it is female light silvery looking color then it is male 2however is all female
5-6 are female the rest not sure cause I just can't tell.

Good luck to you

My rule of thumb is if it crows or lays an egg then you will know for sure.

Male wing feathers mature later than females and male tail feathers grow sooner than females, they're both good indicators as well.

Thank you. I am most worried about the first barred rock. It is very dominant over the others....runs and scares away any wild bird that lands in the yard...but she is the nicest little bird to us. It follows me around and loves to sit on us. I and my children are getting very attached to it. Sure hope it isn't a boy. The others are great little friendly birds as well but don't act near as dominant as the first barred rock. I had no idea chickens were this fun and friendly. I should have gotten them long ago when I made the mistake of getting mini rabbits for kids pets. They didn't want anything to do with people...chickens are much better.

I will keep watching for feather changes. Fingers crossed they are all pullets.

Thanks again!
