I had a black rubber bowl in the beginning of my chicken adventure, It was supposed to be their dust bath area. But they would roost on the edge and poop into it. So it was just a large toilet. I took it out, now they dust bathe wherever they want.
can citronella be planted in a moveable pot as well?
Yes, I have citronella in a planter on my porch. (I HATE mosquitoes!)
Plant LOTS of it!
You can "activate" the scent by rubbing your hands thru the leaves.

I get watermelon and cut into slices and freeze them. Then when it's so hot I put a couple of the frozen melon slices in a pan of water. It keeps the water cool longer and of course they do love watermelon.
Western Iowa... 79 degrees now at about noon. Very muggy with light rain. Yesterday heat index was 105! I kept the girls cool with ice water and frozen strawberries and blueberries in it.
check appliance stores for "scratch and dent" sales, craig's list, any FREE fridge you can lay on it's back and remove the shelves will work. FREE IS GOOD!
I just want to make a quick thank you to those who replied to my thread. I have decided to go with only PDZ on the poop boards and pine shavings in the run. Hubby and I can make pine shavings quickly and with very low cost.
