Thanks for your thoughts! I have some better pictures now they’re more used to me if that helps :)
I have two that look like this; a boy and a girl
And then I have two different versions of the pale ones:
Version 1:
They have white all over and their speckles are a pinkish fawn co
And then...
For some reason I wasn’t getting notifications of your replies!
I’ve been researching and closely watching her:
I don’t think she’s ill in any other way, and I haven’t seen it again so whatever it was seems to be a one off
I don’t think it’s a malformed egg
I’ll look into cecal core! It was...
Ohhh that’s cute, I’m glad you’re able to look after them!
She can kind of shuffle around but struggles, and she can’t be with other quail because she gets pushed around and can’t get to the food and drink.
If the surgery is unsuccessful we would look at amputation, as the other leg is functional.
Button is a pretty little Coturnix quail, only 4 1/2 months old. I adopted her int on my loving home recently as her owner couldn’t care for a disabled girl.
She was hatched with her siblings, grew up living her best life. When she was about 6 weeks old she started walking oddly, which quickly...
Definitely coturnix rather than buttons 😂😂 I think hatching would be your best bet - you can find adults that’d be fine with it but they’d have to be really used to humans, and then it also depends on their personalities. Some are confident little madams who’ll demand cuddles or treats, others...
Just thought I’d let you all know - he survived all this and was a healthy happy guy! He had a respiratory infection too which I treated with F10 antiseptic solution and a nebuliser.
Sadly he passed away recently after an accident, but the advice here worked.
Hi all,
I am usually a hoverer, reading everything but never there in time to answer before everyone else!
In need of a second opinion - I picked up this girl a few weeks ago from someone with no experience taking care of quail. She’s only 4 months old or so, has 6 big spots of bumblefoot on...
Thanks for the advice! She seems to be holding it better now, but comes and goes. I do wonder if it’s stress related? She’s currently getting used to being in a new covey. It’s been a couple weeks and she’s in her own space within their area, but I’ve started leaving her door open so she can mix...
I’ve been lucky to never have wing injuries before, but this morning my girl has started doing this holding one of hers out to the side:
I’m fairly sure she hasn’t boinked or anything so I’m not sure how she’s done anything to it!
What do you think? In need of a vet visit?
Hi all!
After reading this entire thread I still have a question about a couple of my quail!
What would you wonderful people call these colours?
The two that are similar are white with pale creamy ginger markings.
And then the small darker girl on the left - the colours aren’t true in the pic...
So I’ve taken her to the vet - I did use a tiny needle myself (disinfected the area and sterilised needle etc) and released the air initially. Since then, there is like solid stuff in there, it just looks like her crop but bulging in an abnormal place.
Frustratingly the vet appointment was in...
Thank you for this! I did the treatment already and it went down, came back and I did it again. Then it didn’t come back for about 18 hours.
it’s there again now but I’m worried because I can see stuff in the area too. I would imagine it’s what the inside of the crop looks like -their food but...
Hi all,
I’ve read all I can on here about this but looking for some opinions.
Chick is a couple days old. Very lethargic, still eats and drinks but needs encouragement.
Chick has a critical care vitamin water and has had a very small amount of boiled egg yolk.
You can see in the pics there is...
