Not a great picture but here is what she looks like now. A little greasy and stained from neosporin but it seems to be working. I'm washing the sores with saline and limiting her swimming.
Yes! I've been down with a heck of a cold and haven't taken any pics yet but I'd say her sores are half the size they were and the skin looks much less inflamed now.
Such a relief!
We don't keep anything else in the pond. All it is is a 60 gallon galvanized horse trough and I change the water every other day. I had just changed the water a couple hours before I spotted the sores.
I will try the saline rinse and check around for the blue kote.
Thanks!
It was late afternoon yesterday. There were a few feathers in the pond but she was already missing quite a few from the aggressive drake a couple weeks ago. New feathers had started growing in. I was home all day and going in and out of the house. This happened within an hour while I was in...
I think I will try some benadryl ointment just in case. Do I need to do anything with the broken feathers or will they heal up on their own?
So far the neosporin seems to have helped at least a little bit. The sores are more pink now rather than the angry red and she is sleeping comfortably...
Something I just thought of, we have had alot of wasps around lately and we've destroyed a few nests...could she have been stung and had a reaction maybe?
Thanks everyone who has replied!
She is fully enclosed with good fences. We live in town and no predators. I have been home all day and have been in and out of the house talking to the ducks and chickens. She was alone in the pond, the other three had already had their swim. Their pond is a...
We are setting up an area in the house for her. I'm wondering if I can/should try to bandage the areas. She keeps lifting her wings off like it hurts to have them touch her back.
Hey all, I'm in need of some advice. I'll start by saying the only bird vet in my area is closed currently and I may have to wait until Monday. I just found my 1.5 year old pekin like this. These sores were not there when i was outside an hour ago!

These pics are of her left wing...
It's been a long time since we raised rabbits but ours pretty much did all the work themselves. We kept the male in a separate hutch from the female and her babies and let them out in the yard (fenced and as rabbit proof as we could make it - the female had tunnels dug from our yard to our...
Yeah them getting chilled at night is my biggest concern. I could run a heat lamp if I had to but that would be too hot for the chickens I'm sure. And I definitely don't want injuries to any of my critters. Right now all 8 of them are running around happily foraging together which is why I...
We are having extremely nice weather for the season this year (75-80F during the day, 40-45F at night). I took my 3 two week old ducklings outside today to get some sunshine and fresh air and they are loving it of course. I'm wondering if they could stay outside....
Normally I wouldn't think...
If it was me I'd pick up another thermometer just to be safe since the eggs are so sensitive. those little thermometers for reptile cages are usually pretty cheap. I kept 2 thermo's in my incubator - a digital and a regular one. Both also measured humidity. I set the probe for the digital on...
You'll want to gradually drop the temp by about 2 degrees F. (For ducks at least, not 100% sure about chickens but it is probably similar). The actual temp depends on whether you have a forced air or still air incubator. Mine went from about 100.5 down to 98.5 (still air/no fan). The humidity...
