Thank you all for your kind words... they mean a lot to me.
I'm not sure about getting another goose... part of it is because I'm 64 and I don't want my pets to outlive me. Maybe I could find a middle-aged goose. :-) On the other hand, I don't want any more deaths and I know I'm looking at...
Sadly, I had to make the decision to euthanize my Goosey Goose two days ago.
When I saw him that afternoon, he was lying on his stomach with his neck straight out, beak resting on the ground. Never seen him like that. He couldn't stand and he wasn't interested in food, water, or trying to nip...
Didn't realize geese could get worms. I've been keeping an eye on him. He stands sometimes, but isn't drinking the fresh water I gave him when I first went out this morning (which is unusual for him). I didn't see any more watery blood, but he made that high-pitched noise a couple of times...
Hmmm... that hadn't occurred to me. He's in a welded wire dog run, has straw on the ground, and no sharp objects available to him, but you never know.
He's a joy...

I heard my 22 y/o male goose make a couple of high-pitched honks this morning, so I went out to look. He was sitting and fairly passive (not usual for him), and while I was petting him, he shook his head and a few drops of watered-down blood came out of the inside of his beak. I tried to open...
I'm overwhelmed by the responses I've been getting... thank you all so much. We just loaded the truck today and I'm more tired than I can describe... We're all on the plane on Monday, at our new home Monday night. Mr Goose will spend the night in the bathtub. Although my brother is willing to...
We're flying on Monday from New Orleans to Sacramento, on Delta.
I thought about doing the double-decker thing (goose on the bottom, cats on top)... any photos of your fencing that you'd like to share would be great!!!
Thanks.
Carol
Hmmmm... I hadn't heard of this as an alternative. I like the mobility of it for the reasons you mentioned, the ease of setting it up, etc. 42" high isn't very much, though... seems like foxes, coons, coyotes (more common in that area), and cougars and bears (less common, but still there)...
Thank you! I just wish I were finished with the packing... the truck will be here on Saturday.
Mr G will fly in an airline-approved large dog crate, the same one he flew in when we moved here.
Chain link sounds formidable enough, thanks. Great idea to include electric wiring top and bottom...
I'll be moving back to Northern California soon (specifically, in the Placerville area) and need to build or buy a cage for my 22 yr old goose. He had a big back yard to roam in here that has a 6ft wooden fence. The only visitor he's had is a possum who comes every night to eat his food. He's...
