How do you like cooking your eggs?

Breakfast sandwiches! Not always at breakfast either. I love homemade egg McMuffins, but my very favorite is a sandwich with toasted grainy flax bread, a scrambled egg, and one slice of melty American cheese. It’s so basic but so so so good. This thread made me really want to try sourdough...

    Meyer chicks

Exciting to see these cuties! I’m planning on ordering my first six chicks from Meyer as well. I was originally going to get TSC chicks, but the more I looked into breeds, the less likely TSC would carry them.

Between Gaylord and Boyne Falls, so not too far from Traverse City!

That’s so interesting! I’m fascinated by flower breeding and I’m wondering if that fascination will spread to chickens...

Wow! 300 is impressive! But when you love them, you love them. I know I’d have 100 dogs if I had enough time to pay attention to each one. I’m definitely taking coop predator-proofness as seriously as possible. We have every predator out there as you already know!

Chicken Training Stories (Intentional or not!)

Hello! I am planning on getting my first chicks this spring and wondered if the BYC community could share their chicken training stories. What have you trained your chickens to do on purpose? What about accidental habits that you’ve taught them? I know I’ve accidentally trained my dogs all...

    Greetings from Northern Michigan!

SO BEAUTIFUL! I can’t even imagine seeing a little highland nugget running around, I would die of cuteness overload. If we ever move, I’m making sure the next property has proper pasture and then I can start building my heard... I’ve heard that turkeys are awesome, so that’s another thing to...

I definitely can’t go wrong with bigger coops or runs! I’d like them to have a big run anyway in the even I need to be away for a weekend and can’t move the tractor for whatever reason. Thanks!

This is so helpful!! I feel like I just saw my future hahaha. I spend so much time outside anyway that maybe supervised free ranging combined with a tractor or chicken tunnels will work just fine. Great to hear your dog experience. That’s what I see happening. They learn what we want and don’t...

This is so great! Thank you for sharing! This may be where I strike my balance, only time and experience will tell. Scarlet and Thelma are absolutely gorgeous!!! Those feathers are incredible. Oooo I’m so excited.

I like that idea a lot! My husband is handy, I just need to convince him that he loves chickens enough to work on chicken projects ;)

    Greetings from Northern Michigan!

Thank you! I do love everyone’s encouragement to get more chicks and I most likely will. 10 of the 30 acres is across the street, so if the dogs were bad enough, they could be separated. In their older age, I *think* I can convince them that they are too old to play with chickens. Maybe...

    Greetings from Northern Michigan!

I will definitely check that out! Yes, they might be an issue. Which is why I’d like to start small in case it doesn’t work out for us...then again, maybe I should start big!
