That is really a beautiful set-up! You should be very proud. (I know your "girls" must be very happy!) ;-)

FYI...I guess I missed that the other Delaware pics were NOT the same as the first. Definitely a roo and quite beautiful. :-)

All your birds are beautiful, including the Delaware, but are you sure that's a roo? Looks like a pullet to me.

    Breed ID/Comparison Help

Thanks for the info. Yes, all 4 pullets have slate colored shanks. Thank you also for the breeder referrals. I will get in contact with them and hopefully find myself a quality too (and maybe another hen or 2).

    Breed ID/Comparison Help

Hi All... Just getting started with Marans and definitely have a LONG way to go, so need opinions from you more veteran breeders out there. In April I received 3 BC Marans chicks (along with some other breeds). I've got a trio. The cockrel is definitely wanting as far as proper breed...

Strutter is one handsome roo! Where did you get him?

I guess you will find out when she starts to lay. Marans x Americauna (or Easter Egger) will give you an Olive Egger. ;-)

You know...I'm looking at your pullet and she looks to have a single comb (though sometimes it's hard to tell from a photo sometimes). I don't see any hint of a beard or muffs and the shanks aren't indicative of an Americauna or an Easter Egger. Why did they say they felt this could be a cross?

Thanks. That is interesting to know. :-) I'm sure my lone cockrel is less than desireable as far as Marans traits and the pullets do not have feathering on the shanks. Right now they are just here for the eggs, but I hope to acquire some nicer hens (and maybe a roo), at the Marans show...

    Show off your roosters!!

Actually, I would lean towards a Partridge Leghorn.

Could you elaborate on your culling method? Are you culling based on less white in the face or more? At what age are you culling? I have yet to hatch out any BC Marans at this point (my pullets/cockeral are not quite 13 weeks old), but when I get to that place, I am interested in the...

They look to be Welsummers. I've had this breed a couple years now and besides being very attractive, they lay a beautiful terra cotta colored egg. Charlcie

    Show off your roosters!!

"Daddy" is a BEAUTY! Years ago I had a really nice Partridge Rock rooster. We dubbed him "B.A." (for Bad A**). He was great with us humans, but was a fierce protector of his harem.

    Show off your roosters!!

OK...giving it another try to upload my rooster photo...My Marans (supposed to be a BCM, but he only has flecks of copper), cockrel - Jimmy, at 10 1/2 weeks. He has started crowing already! First attempt sounded more like he was having his neck wrung, but the next morning he belted out several...
