    Automatic coop doors

I made my own using this blog post. I got slightly different parts so let me know if you’re interested and I can list. I know nothing about electronics but it was okay! Some people use timer offsets too but I’m happy with the light sensor only. I’ve plugged mine into a smart plug so I can...

    Coop cams

Many of the cameras on Amazon are just rebadged, many are very similar. Even the really cheap ones can work well. You can control them using an app. I use an SD card with mine so I can playback the last 2 or 3 days of footage too. You can even get 30 day cloud storage but if you’re not using it...

Check out the coop I built!

Thanks! Yep, door is an automatic one, rigged it up using a tutorial I found online, despite knowing jeff all about electronics. Been going strong for 6 months now! Good shout on the OSB, probably not the best material to use. I’d like to move to sheet metal at some point as it would be more...

Anyone tried mesh over grassed lawn to protect it from scratching?

You didn’t read my post as they aren’t confined to a run. I think you missed that they’re free ranging. The mesh would just be on the grass area to help protect it so they wouldn’t be walking on it 24/7. Were eventually going to be down to 5 chickens so it’s not like we have a huge number either.

Anyone tried mesh over grassed lawn to protect it from scratching?

Some really good ideas in here, thanks! I’m planning to reseed and cover with netting and let it properly grow for a couple of months. Grasses and clover mix sounds like a good idea, would this be more resistant?

Anyone tried mesh over grassed lawn to protect it from scratching?

Thank you! Have you used it for chooks? Yes, definitely will be reseeding at this rate, doesn’t look like it has much life yet. I may also stop mowing it, maybe that will help it last through Winter!

Anyone tried mesh over grassed lawn to protect it from scratching?

Thanks guys. Although it’s not as if I’m confining them to one mesh area inside a run, they have other parts of the garden where they will be able to scratch? I’ve seen you can also get special grass protection mesh which is a plastic mesh so that could be a better idea although it is more costly!

Anyone tried mesh over grassed lawn to protect it from scratching?

Hello all. We like to free range our 7 hens. People keep telling us to fence them in but we’re wanting to persevere and try and adapt the garden for the chooks! Over these past few winter months the lawn has turned to almost mud. Has anyone tried attaching hardware cloth mesh or grass...

We got 10 unsexed chicks initially, 5 buff Orpington’s and 5 Brahmas. We love them!

Check out the coop I built!

It’s about 1.5m x 1m, the height inside is about 1.5m. That excludes the nest box. We had 10 chooks in there, we’re down to 7 now we’ve figured out the boys. Planning to keep 5 as this will be more manageable with the garden size and coop!

Check out the coop I built!

Thanks, it was a bit of a unique build! It was perfect for us as the shed is quite large and we didn’t want to lose any space in the garden. Sorry for resurrecting this post by the way, missed the notificiations!

Check out the coop I built!

Hey all, part-converted our garden shed here in the UK into a chicken coop. It’s raised off the floor of the shed so we don’t loose floor storage in the shed and it’s handy for keeping food under there too. It’s got two big doors on the inside for cleaning, one is removable. There’s a huge...

Brahmas & Buff Orpington's. Pullets or cockerels? (Pictures)

Hi all! We've got 5 Brahmas that are 3 months old and 5 Buff Orpington's that are 2 months old. I've attached some pictures and wondered if anyone wanted to play the guessing game with us? Or is it still too early to tell? Here's the gallery, I've uploaded two photos of each chick at the same...
