I have a Brinsea cabinet bator,. but I do a continuous hatch and my DIY hatcher just wasn't big enough to separate the breeds Last yr I lost the fan at the end of hatch season-- it was 5 yrs old, and I had to really scramble--borrowed a few Hovabators to use as hatchers, So it is time to upgrade!
He may be attempting to breed and it will look like he his but the fertility rate will be very low to ziltch. Because of their physical make-up it is very difficult to get an "actual" breeding. And then there is the fact that they do not stop growing which caused other problems like...
I was going to recommend Porters....too bad he is going out of WH. I am real happy w/mine I got from him. First to lay and they are very prolific. They seem to fill out better than a few other breeds at the same age. The hens are impressive also when butchered. Check out the FB page for...
No thoughts?... Well, l spent hours on this site, following links etc, and I think I came up with a workable idea and got many tips on lots of small concerns. Finally.... found the thread with tons of DIY bator/hatchers and gleaned a bunch from everyone's trial and errors.... ...so when I...
I really do need help figuring the placement of the fans and heat source for optimal air flow, and humidity. Another thought is to make it like a giant Hova bator with the fans etc in a raised lid. I have searched the web and all I can find are very small DIY made w/ bulbs.
Another question...
I had made a hatcher --small cabinent style. The heat source is a 125w rod and fan behind a false wall which blew down over the heat across the water pans and back up the front etc.It worked well, but I want to make a larger horizontal version, with a single larger divided tray, but need some...
Hi, just saw your post...I'm not on here much. I have an ovaeasy advance and its a learning curve...lol. I start a turn and then stop it when they are ALMOST level because they don't stop immediately. The few seconds causes them to go past the level. It took me a bit to figure it out, and...
Hi, I don't post much, but troll through for info. I built a cabinet hatcher but isn't big enough, so I have to put the overflow eggs in a LG. I was given a chest freezer and was thinking it may work, but everything will be on the horizontal, so I am wondering about placement of fan, heating ...
I too lost my hen when she went broody (I only had a pair) so this spring I got 4 keets, hoping for more hens...only got 1... BUTT--when they were old enough to let out, the adult male took care of them like a broodie would AND kept the other birds away from them, guarded them, called them...
...we got home ok...enjoyed meeting nameless faces--but now they have names!! Battened down the hatches, didn't let the birds out this am--Erin--MY birds would have loved the chicken toy--...lol...just kidding--they were all weirded out because of the storm/low barr pressure AND not getting...
