UPDATE ON WEAK PEAHEN!! SHE HAS RECOVERED!!
Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions and concern about my sick hen, "Darla". I particularly want to thank Kathy (Castportpony) for all of her knowledge and encouragement. Darla would not have survived without her help. She checked up on us...
Darla is holding her own. Can't see much improvement yet. I have been hydrating her with pedialyte using a tube to the crop as per instructions from Kathy. I started on a weak mixture of baby bird food this morning along with a dose of metronidazole and Baytril. As I mentioned before, on Monday...
I have just returned from a trip to town to buy feeding syringe, tubing, baby bird food, etc. Just checked on the hen. She is standing on the floor of her coop. I didn't bother her further. I'm waiting for my husband to get home in a hour so we can bring her up to the house and put her in the...
Thanks for the replies.
I am on my way to town to get tubing supplies so I can start hydrating her. I need to get the dog kennel from the attic and bring her in. Her breathing is fine, no swelling of the nasal passages. I don't think it is respiratory. I have Baytril on hand so am going to start...
This is a cross post. I posted also in emergencies, but I'm needing help fast.
I have a 3 year old peahen that lives in the aviary with a 5 year old male. The first indication that I had that anything was wrong was on Sunday, 2 days ago. She was lying in her nest box inside the coop which she...

We'll make a new bucket with these nipples and see how that works. Several people say...
I've been reading about these horizontal nipples. I'm going to order some and make up a new bucket and see if that does the trick. Thanks for the suggestion.
Just a 5 gallon bucket. Seems odd to me, too. But I don't know all the mechanics of how these heaters work. The tank de-icer I have has an automatic on-off regulator. It comes on when the water gets down to 32 and turns off when the water gets to about 45. Maybe the aquarium heater is getting...
I, too, am using a 5 gallon bucket with 3 nipples on the bottom. We converted to this watering system back in the spring, and did a lot of research on how to best winterize it. We bought the K&H ultimate all in one de-icer that "pdirt" mentioned, and we have the 250 watt size. We took the...
Just curious. I have not had a breeding pair before. But do I understand that when the males start molting they are no longer interested in breeding? So any eggs that may be layed after molt would not be fertile?
