Can't get rid of canker in a bird... is it possible at all?

I'd like to let you know the method we use which has been quite successful. We're keen to let others know so they can see how it works for them. Please have a read of our article. It's written regarding pigeons but will of course apply. https://www.thewaterfowlsanctuary.co.uk/articles/canker.htm

Goose with overgrown bill serrations and very bad breath

Hello, I hadn't tended to him for a few days but did earlier and the growth continues. Very strange. I had to finger pieces out of his bill and around the edges again although not to the extent when I originally posted. I don't have an issue plonking him in a towel and becoming a goose...

Goose with overgrown bill serrations and very bad breath

Evening/Morning (delete as appropriate) I've just brought him in for his first round of medication. I didn't use antibiotics given the issue is external to the body and seemed better to direct efforts on the visible. I bought some simple antibacterial mouth wash intended for fungal type...

Goose with overgrown bill serrations and very bad breath

Thanks Goosebaby. He does preen - but doesn't have such a pristine coat as others. It's waterproof, but a bit messy as if he's just done the basics - so you might be right that it's painful. Clearly in its current state I'd expect it to be unpleasant to use but the desire to survive ensures he...

Goose with overgrown bill serrations and very bad breath

Ah - I'm aware of it with regards to pigeons and doves but haven't had first hand experience. I believe that kills them fairly promptly if untreated though and this one had the problem a few months back. No doubt it hasn't gone away and I only notice it if I look closer than simply saying hello...

Goose with overgrown bill serrations and very bad breath

Hello. Thanks for your input. Trichomoniasis (Google...) suggests it's a human STD. I do love my geese, but..... Seriously though - I'll have a read along with the suggested meds. I don't have a problem going to the professionals and do when I'm unable to treat with the reasonable selection of...

Goose with overgrown bill serrations and very bad breath

Hello - and thank you for your kind thoughts towards our friend. He has access to whatever he might wish to dismantle such is the behaviour of geese as we know. I often wonder if they're frustrated engineers and just don't have the physical ability to build, just destroy! They all have access...

Goose with overgrown bill serrations and very bad breath

It's an odd one for sure. I have plenty here and thankfully they all keep their teeth (i think that's fine and sounds better than referring to them as serrations. I should look for the anatomical term really) nice and clean. He's easy to pickup given he's blind on one side so can try a course of...

Goose with overgrown bill serrations and very bad breath

Dear all, One of our greylags has a problem where the sides of his bill does not seem to wear away and continues to grow. The tip does grow too much also along with his toe nails which suggests an excess of keratin but the sides of the bill is the main problem. I've removed the excess from his...

Eggs that appear to have developed without a mate

All, I can confirm that each egg was rotten and contained nothing but mung. I placed each one at the bottom of the garden waste wheelie bin and prodded with a long pole. Each popped with the built up pressure and my bin now is on the leader board for the smelliest things on the planet. Thanks...

Eggs that appear to have developed without a mate

I've yet to open any - but will prepare my nuclear fallout suit in the expectation that the contents will be far from pleasant whatever I discover. I'll report back - hopefully :)

Eggs that appear to have developed without a mate

Thank you for introducing an interesting word into my day. I've had a read and am familiar with how bees produce males with unfertilised eggs - just wasn't aware of the word. Thanks for your reply.

Eggs that appear to have developed without a mate

Dear all, Amongst our flock we have a female black swan - the only swan we have. Last year she made a clutch of eggs, sat on them for one day and thought better of it and rightly left them. This year however she sat on the for the long haul until a couple of days ago. So, I collected the eggs...

A greylag goose with an eye problem

Hi there, I do some rehabbing for wildfowl that aren't ready to be returned to the wild and had a greylag goose brought to me at the weekend. It had been taken to a rescue center and looked like it had eye damage and was wobbly on his feet. It received some anti-biotics and eye creams and once...

Goose loves me - hates my girlfriend (and the bin)

Indeed - removing the eggs. I can't stop them mating - but creating goslings I can. Thanks Ravynscroft. He sits for much of the day on the decking by the pond which has large sliding glass doors and so he can see his reflection - although I've not considered him to be fooled or attracted by the...
