    EE attacked by a dog

How big is the wound is it just skin or down to flesh and muscle? Treatment depends on the wound if its just feathers missing and not an open sore it is different I would definitely catch her and get it clean and treat it because you don't want it to get infected...let me know how bad it...

One last thing about honey the raw honey hasn't been heated and filtered so it has beneficial enzymes alive in it...the liquid honey that pours from a squeeze bottle is a completely different substance. Raw honey has much different look and texture and has to be scooped more like peanutbutter...

As for honey it's not any honey there are particular raw honeys that have been known to prevent infection and support healthy tissue growth. I personally wouldn't pour honey down a puncture wound at least not without flushing it really well with lactated ringer's or saline or another irrigation...

Are her legs injured at all or is she just still a little in shock? Increasing her protein will help in her recovery! Yogurt, hard boiled or scrambled eggs, oatmeal with peanut butter are a few of my girls favorites :)

Good job with your hens wound mychickenbrood I have heard great things about vetericyn! I wouldn't worry yet about the feathers it took over 2 weeks for my girl to show any signs of growing feathers where there was just skin and not an open wound but I don't think we will know until after the...

For the chicken saddle pattern I have pulled some good ones from online that look better than mine :) The easiest thing to do is cut a piece of material 8 1/2 by 16 1/2 inches. If the wound is higher on the neck make the skinnier part at the fold longer so then maybe start with 18 or 20" of...

Update on Pepper she is doing wonderful! This photo was taken Day 12 and there are already feathers starting to grow at the top of the wound where the skin re attached. You can purchase from this website: http://www.atlanticmedsupply.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=243&cat=IV+Solutions I am sure there are plenty of others though the $5 site you needed a prescription for from a vet. The reason I use the ringers is the pH level of the wound can be controlled by...

And yes saline is better than water and lactated ringers are even better that's what I have been using and always have on hand for my animals. I get them through a friend but online they sell for about $5 per liter or a pharmacist may have some as well!

Also I would be sure to trim the feathers with scissors on the flaps of damaged skin if you pack the wound right they may decide to re-adhere to the muscle below. The weight of the feathers could cause the skin to tear more or have trouble healing just from getting stuck in the ooze drainage...

I gave her baytril common for dogs and cats 22.7 mg/ml .5cc under her skin 2x per day. It could also be given orally but for me it was easier to inject. Your local feed store probably has Duramycin 10 to put in drinking water but I think that is more effective for respiratory infections. But I...
