Thanks. We only have 5 that we brought home. But it's going to be raining the next few days so they won't get to run around free in their run :-/ I'll try bluekote today
They were raised together from hatching but they were in a brooder with about 30 other birds. We just got them a few days ago. They don't even have a lamp on them since it's warm here right now and they are well feathered so it's not the light or anything.(they live outside in their coop/run...
So today I noticed one of my 4 week old chicks had a pretty significant wound on her back from being pecked by the other members of the brood.
I cleaned it with soap and water and flushed it with hydrogen peroxide. And now she is isolated from the others. Is there anything I can do other than...
I put mine outside when they are that age. They go in the coop with a heat lamp. Actually this year I didn't even give them a headlamp because they were so well feathered I figured they would be ok. (And they are) brooder in the house are a pain.
So I just got a new coop since we are adding to our flock. We have a problem with predators that dig, such as raccoons and coyotes and opossums. So I have to have the bottom of the run have welded wire grate on the bottom. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried growing grass through the welded...
I guess it could be. But we live in the middle of nowhere arkansas. And that's just how I grew up handling things like that.
Either poisoning or shooting them is what we always did. Even if we just shot it with a low powered rifle, that would scare it away.
Some people won't agree with this. And if their are other animals like the neighbors dogs or cats that could get into it don't do it. But put some poison in some ground beef. To me if you kill my chickens it's like killing my family. I don't feel bad about poisoning something that kills my...
Thanks for the advice. Sadly we only have one hen right now :( a pack of coyotes came through and she is the only survivor. We were thinking of getting older hens instead of having to raise more chicks. But we think we are going to go ahead and get chicks.
It may be a while before our little...
Has anyone had experience with getting older chickens and adding them to your flock? I was wondering if they will bond to me as much as my existing chickens have?
I already checked on that. I'm not asking about day old chicks. I know they would send me a single juvenile bird. I'm just wondering if anyone has had any experience with their older birds. Like are they friendly? That kind of stuff.
