I found one of my quail today looking like this. What is it? What can I do to help her?
This is not my photo, but one I found online. However, it looks just like this! Poor thing—thank you in advance!
We’ve had our quail over a year, and this has never happened before. Tonight I cracked open an egg, and the contents were like gelatin, thick thick gelatin. It didn’t smell bad. I had the eggs in the refrigerator, but I don’t think they got too cold and froze. And it’s summer, so they didn’t...
Thank you all! We just added 5 new hens last night, and it seems everyone may be settling dow. But, maybe they’re just waking up??
Glad to hear he’s not super rare. If anyone lives near Charlotte, NC and would like to have him for breeding (please don’t eat him!!) if he’s not miraculously...
Hi. I live in the South too. We raise them for eggs. I’m pretty new to this, but at some point we may want to incubate eggs, so I’m okay with keeping a few males...as long as they behave!
I have a unique looking male quail that I probably need to get rid of because he’s an aggressive breeder and is chasing all the hens. However, I feel like his color is unique, and I’m wondering if I should find a way to keep to keep him. Has anyone seen roosters like this before? He’s actually a...
We just raised our first chicks, and my daughter called it “quail nap time” because they’d all fall asleep at the same time...as in one would fall asleep and within a minute the rest had joined in, snuggling together like puppies. It was really cute. :) Within a week or so, they were more...
Thank you again for your advice. I’ve tried the mineral oil. How long do you think it will take for impaction, or for them to be “in the clear”? I totally panicked when I found the grit in the food dishes—we had a friend caring for the birds, and she confused the bags.
Long story short, my quail were accidentally fed chick grit instead of food for 2-3 days. Is there anything I can do to help them, or do I have to just wait and see if they are okay? They always had water, and they have food now!
