10 year old hand raised senior roo needs good home to live out last years

I am in Louisiana. He crows very rarely now. he's more liable to start doing so if he sees strangers hanging out in his backyard and not acknowledging the backyard is his/not paying him enough attention. other than that, his general crowing is very infrequent.

10 year old hand raised senior roo needs good home to live out last years

Hi all, It is with a heavy heart that I write that one of my backyard chickens has passed away and my one remaining avian companion is now sad and lonely, by himself in his coop. He is very very old, hand raised, a bit iffy with strangers but loves hugs and is extremely friendly when he gets to...

    Limping hen - arthritis?

Have been reading a whole bunch on bird nutrition. Most articles are abut songbirds and parrots kept as indoor pets but I imagine some of the same principles apply to chickens, especially ones that are becoming more sedentary in their old age. I am also reading that though birdseed has too much...

    Limping hen - arthritis?

I did a search of vitamin deficiencies in chickens and D3 deficiency seems to match match the description a bit? It says D3 deficiency can cause rickets, though mostly in growing birds. I don't know what is put into starter feeds but unless it has a D3 supplement, it is one of the only essential...

    Limping hen - arthritis?

Thanks all for the great advice! Will keep an eye on her to make sure she's not getting better or worse and play around with her feed and nutrition to see if anything sticks. Should nutritional supplements (such as rooster booster) be limited to just her, or is it fine to put in the general...

    Limping hen - arthritis?

Hi! Yes she does not have bumblefoot. Do you think if it was a sprain, it would take this long to heal though? I'd say the limp has been present for 6-7 months already. Hard to tell for certain from the video if it's just 1 leg or both having issues but I think it is both, especially as both her...

    Limping hen - arthritis?

She only had the 1 vet visit in her life about 6 months ago, where the vet said she didn't think it was egg binding and that she was also a bit underweight. (note, she has not been underweight her whole life but because she had not been eating in the days leading up to the appointment, she got a...

    Limping hen - arthritis?

Thanks a lot everyone and sorry for the late response - here is a video of her walking. The mild penguin walk is not obvious in this video (she didn't do it as much this time and she sat down after that video so I didn't want to force her to walk again for the camera) but you can sort of see it...

    Limping hen - arthritis?

hi all this is a continuation of something I asked about previously ~6 months ago 9 y/o hen (breed: sex linked red star) has been walking funny for a while now. Took her to see a vet ~6 months ago and vet gave her some nutritional supplements and an antibiotic, both of which have long since...

old hen, constant egg binding/common ailment advice?

update: i ended up needing to take her to the vet as she was doing very poorly, particularly with the summer heat. vet narrowed it down to either egg peritonitis or a nutritional deficiency and prescribed an antibiotic and some vitamin supplements. i've also switch back to a starter feed. she is...

old hen, constant egg binding/common ailment advice?

Hi all, I have an 8 year old hen, going on 9, (breed: sex link red star) who seems to having some kind of health problems. She sort of hobbles as she walks and legs seem to be somewhat turned in, so that her feet are very close together (not an issue she had growing up). Sometimes her tail is...

    rooster continuously clearing throat

Hi all - I made a post about this in the past and ultimately attributed the symptoms to a clogged nare but the nare has since been unclogged and the symptoms have persisted so I am looking for new advice. I have an 8 year old roo who seems to be gaping/yawning/clearing throat a lot. He has...
