Update on the chicks, they are warm, I checked by having my sister place them on my face which is warm and they were warmer than my face, my sister was holding them because her hands are warm and my hands were cold, they are just currently sleeping and they have water, it’s currently 1 AM for us...
We don’t have a generator but we have my mum and step dad nearby, we will be getting just one for now but we will get a second next time we hatch chicks
My sister checked on them, they are mostly sleeping but my sister said they feel nice and warm, the room is 24 degrees Celsius and retains heat better than the laundry where we had them, the incubator runs at 37 degrees Celsius in case you think that’s better
They are under the heater and in the smaller cage we have so they can huddle more, tell us if this set up is good please, I think next time we hatch chicks we will get an emergency bulb
My sister decided the chicks will stay in her room for the night in her warm room, she is just very concerned for them, her room is also the warmest room
We don’t have a wool hen or insulated box but we have cardboard boxes (they are just outside in our art shed), we can put warm water bottles in and my sister has turned to heat up in her room in case nothing else works and we would have to move them into a warmer room
We do also have the incubator running incase more of the eggs hatch so we could temporarily move them to the lower section we use for chicks who just hatched or are struggling if you think it’s a better idea than a heat pack
We do not have a heated blanket nor thermometer
The oldest is about a week old and the youngest is about less than a week old, there are 6 of them and they’ve been huddling up
Our heat lamp bulb just burst and the stores that sell the bulbs are closed for the day so we put a heat pack wrapped up in a towel in with the chicks, is this enough warmth to keep them warm?
The lowest temperature we will experience today is 7 degrees Celsius, currently it’s 15 degrees...
I am doing my best to keep my mind off of Powder’s death, I have 6 other chicks to take care of and more that can hatch but it still hurts me a lot that she passed but I am doing my best
Update, Powder did not do well out of the incubator and separate from the other chicks, Powder is still alive but has been placed back in the incubator, we found her motionless in the little area we put her in, she was still alive but once placed back in the incubator she started cheeping and...
Update on Powder, she still hasn’t had the yolk fall off, she almost gave me a heart attack earlier when I checked on her but she is ok, she is very vocal, yesterday we were more busy with washing one of the siblings of Powder who had dried membrane stuck to her but today I will try to make a...
