It could still be good as long as the drop did not injure the growing embryo. To seal the crack place a piece of scotch tape over it.
The egg should be fine with the rest of the batch. This method has worked successfully for me before.
Best of luck with your batch!
Hi Keith - welcome to the board!
Congratulations on your hatch. I have a few hatching this sunday and I'm already on stand by. There are always those that like to hatch out early.
I raise silkie bantams and my huband raises bantam leghorns. It is very addictive and fun.I'm always learning...
Here's a pic of my daughter Yasmin (4 years old) holding "June Bug" at our last show. June Bug had won Reserve of Breed at her first show so Yasmin was giving her a big hug for her great accomplishment
My husband breeds bantam leghorns and shows them. He is currently working on the blue color and we recently hatched out some splash. I love the blue color. I agree that they are very flighty and the roosters are protective over the hens. They are great layers
Here are some pics of a few...
my silkies do the same. i keep them in paper towel the 1st 2 weeks and move them to shavings the 2nd week. It is the cutest thing to see when they 1st discover the shavings.
I have been using the milk crates as well and they are great! The chickens seem to like them. I just keep mine on the floor.
and yes...little fuzzballs are very a addictive
I'm in southern CA and the temps get up there as well. I leave mine to room temperature. When temps decrease throughout the day I adjust the light. The chicks usually let you know by chirping a lot if they are uncomfortable
