Case of Canker? How Best to Treat? If not canker, then what?

Thank you. This ordeal has caused me to examine NPIP. With what happened to my rooster, MG is being suspected. I'm sure more to follow, but man I sure don't want MG, as it'll force me to destroy my entire flock.

Case of Canker? How Best to Treat? If not canker, then what?

I believe that is the case and I hope so. This all is just so bizarre and now that I think of it, what was actually a canker, appears to be a sore in the roof of his mouth that became infected and the sore oozed cheese that pushed down on his tongue muscle forcing it to extend forward into the...

Case of Canker? How Best to Treat? If not canker, then what?

In process of that now. The vet euthanized my boy on Thurs Apr 23, I had grown a little attached to him by trying to nurse him back to health. But he continued to worsen, emaciated, no longer had the muscle strength to fly on the roost at night. Here are pics, and I'm sorry they're SO GROSS...

Case of Canker? How Best to Treat? If not canker, then what?

Well, I see no improvement. The canker in the throat seems to have grown. I continue to administer an oral dose of Tylan 200 each night, of about 1mg. The rodonizole arrived in the mail today so I put that in his drinking water tonight for the morning, and have discarded the iodine laden...

I took a few photos, and I do suspect wet fowl pox now. You can see for yourselves too. But I strongly disagree that mosquitos caused this this year. It's possible I had this virus in my chicken yard for years without noticing the scabs on the combs as being out of the ordinary, I had...

Case of Canker? How Best to Treat? If not canker, then what?

There is a slight odor, but not terribly. I have seen poxy like sores on the rooster's comb but I honestly thought that was from cold weather. Having never dealt with pox, nor wet pox especially, I'm having to rethink this. Regardless what comfort foods I offer him, he ain't eating. But this...

Case of Canker? How Best to Treat? If not canker, then what?

I will redo the water. I had read to put the copper sulfate in the water with the ACV. GRRRR. Makes me so mad that is out there on the internet. Poor bird, I'm wondering if the acidified water put the poor creature into more pain. Gonna change the water right now.

Case of Canker? How Best to Treat? If not canker, then what?

Thanks, I'll try your suggestion. We've had such a wet spell here in the mid-south US, that one day about 6 weeks ago, I dumped all the wet rain soaked food (soggy layer pellets) onto a large tarp, out in the sun, in the middle of the yard. My chickens don't roam free unless I let them out...

Case of Canker? How Best to Treat? If not canker, then what?

I just dosed one-fourth teaspoon of copper sulfate, plus 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar into 1 gallon of drinking water. The bird, a white marans roo (4 yrs old), has this posture: Here is his son, for comparison with a healthy bird. Here are photos of what I believe are canker: I...

When you say MG, are you referring to Mycoplasma?

    10-day deworming follow-up question

Thanks folks. I reasoned it as if at least 10 days must pass, because I didn't think the Valbazen would be effective on unhatched eggs. I don't know enough about roundworm biology to know when, after hatching, they become sexually mature and start laying. But I'd figure that if you wait too...

    10-day deworming follow-up question

Ten days after deworming peafowl, it's advised to re-medicate to ensure newly hatched eggs are killed. But what if you cannot get to the bird on day 10 because you're out of town? What if you apply the 2nd dosage on day 11, or 12, or even 13. Is this a big deal?

Could a broody hen successfully hatch peafowl eggs

Abso-lutely!!!! I do this ALL the time. If it weren't for my chickens I would not have peafowl. I suck at incubating them (I succeeded in 2017 for the first time in 10 years) but the chicks died at 8 weeks from Coccydiosis. From birth, the peachicks are put on the bare ground with the...

    Gasping peachick (2 weeks old)

Kathy thanks for that video. Sorry it has taken me a few days to respond. My chick makes no gurgling sounds whatsoever. The gasping has subsided. I am to the point where I believe there's a birth defect resulting undeveloped lungs. The chick grows at an extremely slow rate. At 7 weeks it...
