CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE!!! We Just Whooshed Past 1,000 Members

People, take a look at the 'user list', there is a large portion of members that have never posted (many more with 1 or 2 posts, a few of these praise the board and never post again, interesting). Who signs up for a forum and never posts? A lurker has no use for a 'membership'. Take page two...

    brooder idea-thinking outside the box

First off I have to say that brooder is Chicks will eat anything that is inside of the brooder, paper/wood have no nutritional value and may even cause problems. I would put hardware cloth or aluminum window screen over newspaper.

If my girls found that lizard, it would need to be posted in the feeding time section.

Chicken Lover, haven't you noticed how many times I've posted? It doesn't take one silly emot to keep me coming back here. You mean the "100" times you have asked about the teapot. I don't think anyone has missed this

    Death by dusting?

Cleanliness is an important factor and it sounds like most use the deep litter method, which is not very clean. I can't stress enough how important this is as part of the equation. Manure is not healthy for any mammal to live in. Cleanliness can be open to interpretation. Ever walk into...

Trying the Photos, Wish me Luck

I was under the impression that steel shouldn't be used for roosts because steel draws heat from their feet.

Anyway, custom smilies is coming. PM is coming. Chat is coming. I can't promise when, but those things are guaranteed. There will be other things on the way, but keep in mind, this forum is almost exactly 1 month old (not very old at all). It wasn't sarcasm, HOWEVER this is the first...

    Death by dusting?

We don't seem to be on the same page on this. You say it doesn't work as a de-wormer, I AGREE. All you data is for de-worming. I'm saying it works as a worm PREVENTION (as mentioned on other posts). Proper chicken care has to be instituted along with a DE regiment. DE works for me, but I'm...

Others are still waiting for chat, etc, and they'll come in time. And when you can transfer threads, history, and archives to here even more people will come. Becky, From what I'm reading, the way the forum is right now is basically the way it's going to be. Except for the awesome people here...

    Death by dusting?

<<Drying on the bug works too.>> Since DE works to dehydrate the 'bug', the water would need to evaporate first before it dies from dehydration, but DE will still cut when wet. DE is microscopic fossilized shells, fossilized shells don't get soft when wet. In the case of internal parasites, it...

    Death by dusting?

It still works while wet. People feed DE to their chickens for worm prevention. It's not dry inside of a chicken.

    Death by dusting?

" Wet Application: Mix with water at the rate of 2 oz. per quart of water (one oz. is about 8 level teaspoons). To help keep it in suspension, add one teaspoon of mild detergent and agitate the sprayer now and then while applying. " Source: http://www.permaguard.com/animal.html
