I had one of my hens do the exact same thing. No sign of injury and otherwise healthy. I tried everything for 4 weeks but she never got better. I finally had to cull her due to the fact she had no quality of life. I hope your girl does better than mine Corey.
Good Luck from Idaho

I have a one year old RIR Hen that suffered the love wrath of a 12 pound rooster!!! Best guess is his spur or claw punctured her back skin and then ripped it clean off. Unfortunately I found this only two days ago and the wound was obviously at least 2 or more days old. She is missing skin on...
GoodBye my Sweet HoneyComb
It was a long 3 weeks of hoping, but she never got any better. Her legs were virtually paralyzed and she couldn't defend herself. I had to cull her tonight........
Thats the life of a chicken farmer......
I don't know for sure.... he looks an awful lot like my Roo. I thought mine were RIR's but just posted a question in this forum and one says maybe a New Hampshire Red.
Check out mine and see if they look the same..
We purchased a straight run of 6 Rhode Island Reds and 6 Easter Eggers this spring. A friend of mine also purchased some RR's this spring (in a different state). Her hens look nothing like my hens.....
Also we added to the mix by purchasing some laying pullets 2 RR's and 4 EE's. The mature...
It sounds like the same thing I have going on here.
Are the lame chickens otherwise alert? Do they act sick?
I have one that just won't stand or walk anymore. She acts fine (eating, drinking, pooping) but can't walk. She is not overly fat, but she is a big girl. I have tried antibiotics...
As for her weight, she has always been the fattest of my reds ( I have 6). Through the last 2 weeks or so since this all started, she doesn't seem to be getting any smaller, trust me I have to carry the little piggy everywhere.....Her diet has always consisted of premium layer feed and hardly...

Well it seems to be a bit more serious now that a week has gone by. My limping chicken has a left leg and foot that are atrophying (shrinking) !!!! I am really at a loss as to what to do. She doesn't seem to be in pain and she is still eating and...
I have a 3 month old R.I. Red who is limping horribly. I have thoroughly inspected her left foot & leg as well as the rest of her and have found nothing, no signs of picking, injury or blood. She is very docile, and is still eating. Although she sits most of the day off in a corner I think to...
That auto water is very ingenious. My only issue is that running water is 200 feet away and running a garden hose that far is a pain in the rear. I really don't mind filling thier water every two days, I am just concerned about them not having water duing the night. If this is not a problem...
I have recently removed the waterer from the inside of my coop because it makes such a mess. If I hang it from a strap the girls bounce it around and practically flood the coop. If I set it on the floor it becomes a stable roost and therefore if filled with poop & shavings within hours. I...
I have been doing alot of reading on what I can and can't feed my chickens. I have found most of my answers on BYC and for this I am thankful. But I cannot seem to find a clear answer on SALT. Not that I would feed pure salt to my chickens, but what about salt in food scraps? For example...
