This is the only egg of hers I have ever seen and it was rotten. It was more white than brown. She is good at hiding her eggs. I had seen her just once the 2 weeks before she showed up with 8 chicks.
This is Winifred, a hen who showed up in my backyard about 6 months ago. Anyone know what breed she is? When the chicks are a bit older I will post pics of them so maybe I can determine which are females and which are males. Thanks!
My cats have never bothered the hen but I am afraid if the chicks wander too far my outdoor cat Bob might get them. I'm looking into getting a chicken coop but it looks like a pricey endeavor. I have 2 semi feral cats living in the backyard who were born there.
I have one hen who just showed up in my backyard about 6 months ago. And now, thanks to a rooster who was passing through the neighborhood about a month ago, she now has 8 chicks! I joined this group because I haven't a clue what to do with chickens.
I'm in Stockton and have always thought of myself as a Northern Californian. I kind of see the Grapevine as the dividing point, but maybe folks in Bakersfield and Fresno think of themselves as Southern Californians? If you look on a map Stockton is almost smack dap in the middle of the state.
Greetings. I'm new to this site. I had a hen show up in my backyard about 6 months ago. She's been eating my cat's food and foraging in the yard. Well, a rooster showed up in the neighborhood a few weeks ago (he is gone now) and now Winifred (yes I named her!) has 7 little chicks! I'm clueless...
