    I think you have a pullet or hen. She looks to be more filled out than a young cockerel. Also a roo would try to be slightly higher in the pecking order (unless all your others are much bigger).

    Welcome to BYC. They both look like hatchery quality magpies. Not sure if you girls eggs are fertile yet, you might want to wait a couple of weeks if you want to hatch eggs. If not, then they will be fine to eat either way.

    Of your laying hens, which breed or breeds are your favorite and why?

    The favorites in my flock have to be my houdans, & australorps. They are super friendly. My australops are still laying a good number of eggs at 5 years old. EEs can be hit and miss. I've had some that are really friendly, and others that aren't. I've got a couple that usually around 5-6 eggs...
