Thank you SO MUCH for responding right away! These are all great ideas - I never considered that I need to also clean the sleeping perch (nesting bars). I live in Canada, so I doubt the pigeon supply will ship across the border - but I guess I can give it a try. Thanks again! : )
Snowy's legs are normally yellow with just a bit of pink. She now has splotchy pink everywhere and swelling between her toes.
There is a small black bumble on one foot (maybe 1 centimeter in size) - she's walking, but whimpering and maybe some limping.
QUESTION #1: Is the pink/swelling on her...
Good evening!
We just cracked open a giant double yolk egg, only to find that the whites were a dark red. It smells faintly of blood.
We collected this egg a few weeks ago, and nobody seems sick or dying.
Does anybody have any ideas?
I know the internet says not a problem, but we trust...
Thanks so much! Really appreciated all your help!
We are waiting until tomorrow morning to introduce her to the broody hen to see if she will accept her. We want to keep an eye on them for awhile to make sure she accepts the new chick!
Here she is in the brooder, snuggling up to a plushy...
Update!
She hatched this morning! She is still a bit wet.
However, a piece of membrane is still stuck to her with a bit of blood. Looks like she got pecked on top of a wing. Other than wait and see, is there anything else we can do to help? (After she dries off, I mean).
It is difficult to tell, actually. She sometimes chirps quite loudly.
I put her in the incubator at 38C (100.4F) and 65% humidity. Are these the proper settings for a chick that started outside an incubator?
Thoughts?
Good afternoon!
This post might belong in the hatching section, but I am not certain. I haven't found any other articles that address this specifically.
We have a broody hen that hatched 4 chicks successfully.
The fifth egg had pipped and everything was going well, but she got off the nest...
Hi!
I have been looking for an answer to this: We have a non-emergency foot condition. There is slight swelling between two of her toes, but nothing on the pad underneath. It's only on the webbing between the toes.
She puts weight on it fine, walks fine and is altogether normal. She even...
I guess both the oviduct and the intestine have prolapsed. It was pretty big. We have managed to get both back in and it seems like it is "holding". We had one relapse after a small poop but we got it back in and we will see how it goes over night. We thought it might be "pick-out" as well...
Hey Everyone!
We are having our first vent prolapse, and it looks worse than all the other pictures of vent prolapse we have ever seen.
We've tried everything the internets say, from Prep H + Polysporin... and we're not sure what to do.
Every other pic we have seen seems to be very mild...
So here is the full story:
Yes, it was the same chick. The first vet diagnosed coryza and said that the whole flock would get it (which was incorrect - zero respiratory symptoms), and recommended supportive care. The next vet provided us with topical antibiotics/eye ointment, 10 days, which...
