    My introduction!

One was an opposum, another was a raccoon, last one was hen on hen violence :/

    My introduction!

That is so tough. I’m sorry for your losses. This is the first night for my Margaret and her adopted chicks to be out in the indoor coop. A little nerve-wracking to not hear peeping, but I checked in on her and she’s doing her job the best she can. The other hen got some snuggles and an...

Very, very low pecking order broody juvenile to be reintroduced back into flock

Wow! Merry Christmas First two eggs from Elizabeth And some fun pictures of the apple of my eye: Margaret. Happy Chickmas!! I actually just put her (Margaret) and the chicks outside in the indoor coop just now without the container since it’s a warm night and, while it’s a little anxiety...

    My introduction!

Oh, I’ve totally lost track but here is my dear Margaret who adopted 5 chicks from the store. It’s her first night out of the tub in my bathroom with the chicks so I’m a little nervous! The rooster liked the baby chicks, and one of them had the spunk to peck him! I picked up the other bantam...

Very, very low pecking order broody juvenile to be reintroduced back into flock

This is perfect! I called it chicken remedial school, but in some ways Miss Madge is beyond her time and in other ways she needs to catch up! She’s an adorable personality and hen. I could see her being a good momma and, who knows? Maybe a relative flock leader since she’s got 5 chicks now who...

Very, very low pecking order broody juvenile to be reintroduced back into flock

Yes, I’d like her to stay with her own “people”...because it’s been a labor of love (to put it kindly) to have everyone inside. I had no experience with chickens and just thought because she was so nice - and my relative had brought home pullets from the store - that I could put them together...

Very, very low pecking order broody juvenile to be reintroduced back into flock

She is so precious! Would never peck a soul (not even me when I give her a kiss on the head!). Bad in chicken world...but just would go above and beyond. I have seen her puff up as much as she can to accommodate 5 chicks, and she doesn’t mind if 1 walks alongside her while she walks around. :)...

Very, very low pecking order broody juvenile to be reintroduced back into flock

Oooo I have those in the shed. That’s a GREAT idea. She’s so sweet, but needs to stand up for herself! I told my relative I’m caring for as well, “I am just teaching her HOW to be a chicken...she’s bad at that.” I have tried to get her to peck shiny stuff to maybe learn, but she is terrified of...

    My introduction!

Thank you for the warm welcome! I’m at least glad I didn’t meet everyone before the incidents occurred, but it was sad to see that speckled booted bantam go...especially when I cleaned up 1/2 her wing and a claw where she tried to hide and was bleaching down the maggot situation. A lot of it...

    My introduction!

Thank you so much! She doesn’t quite get while I’m so into the chickens, but it’s kept me sane out here as I go through her paperwork and do other farm chores/chores where she has to stand...sometimes I’ll find some time to clean, but haven’t found time to organize yet.

Very, very low pecking order broody juvenile to be reintroduced back into flock

Yeah, I looked into trying to do the separate area living thing in the coop, but I just don’t have the time. I think you’re right. She just happened to have a maternal instinct, but she has few instincts otherwise...hopefully they’ll come with age... That’s her waiting in line behind the...

    My introduction!

I’ll get to fixing the coop because of that damn raccoon he wasn’t able to trap (damn thing ran off with a golf ball from a trap!). Then I have some other stuff to take care of and the house to organize. But the chickens/animals are so therapeutic for me!

    My introduction!

It was truly just trial by fire. I’ve fallen out of the coop twice. But for some reason animals find me somewhat calming (or they listen to me like when they need to get in the coop), though half of all of that is consistency. I’m wondering if I should clean down the coop for my relative...she...

    My introduction!

We have an area with an insane amount of possums and raccoons, but it was shocking! It looks like I’ll be up here for a little longer than expected, but I very much enjoy the freedom to do my own projects or learn new things I couldn’t do in the city! also, thank you for the well wishes!

    My introduction!

I cried so much - it was actually a 3 day span of deaths where 4 were taken out - when the first one died. She was a precious booted, speckled bantam. That’s when I started my research. Okay, examine the coop. I rearranged the materials in the coop and tossed porous clay that fostered maggot...
