could be copper black marrans. Very cute I have a couple just hatched myself. They only have feathered legs if they are french marans so its a possible. Mine have a single comb though so don't know if that would rule it out.
i am loving this thread,
chicken nipples is the funniest and i had never even realised how funny it sounds until i read it on here. Mine are in the post and i can't wait now to be able to skip through the house when they arrive singing yippee my chicken nipples have arrived.

Sorry but its probably too late.
Broody hens often give up on unhatched eggs after a certain amount of time.
There is the school of thought that thinks mum knows best and that they probably weren't viable. 21 days is the normal incubation period. if there is no cheaping from the unhatched...
hi
I was just wondering how many turned out to be roos and if there was a noticable difference in their tail length.
I have just hatched 5 Bresse and one is most definitely a boy. he is bigger and has a slight colour to his comb and his wattles are starting to show (he's 3 1/2 weeks).

ah its so hard to choose isn't it.
Its a shame you're not able to get in amongst the boys. Both times i've had a pen of boys and been only able to keep one, i have made my choice and then changed my mind by the time the culling day comes. Both times i ended up keeping the one who is friendliest...
yes, they do practice. I recently had a bantam orpington start laying and she spent about 2 weeks singing and sitting in boxes before she finally got the first one out.
And sometimes mine do it when someone else has laid
or someone pushed them out of the nest box before they are ready
and...
my vote is pullet. I have a bunch of crossed hatched about the same time and all the boys have big wattles and combs. the girls combs are varying shade of pink/yellow but there is a distinct lack of wattles.
fingers crossed for you
oh yeah and
when you walk into a very important meeting with loads of high level officials trying to look like a professional woman who deserves to be there and the chief of police (who you have met twice) asks "how are your chickens doing?"
