I wipe them clean with a dry cloth but only wash them when I am ready to use them no matter where I am storing them. Always best to keep the protective coat on them, they stay fresher longer
I have used this for the same purpose when a hen decided to lay in a different box and I found it, didn't know how long it was there but it wasn't too long but checked it anyway. very good method.
Wondering how people store their eggs.
Do you refrigerate or not?
If not how long do you leave them out for?
If you refrigerate how long do you keep them especially over the winter with lower egg production?
How often do you collect your eggs?
I do leave mine in a wire basket on the table...
I don't have issues with my rooster as much as I have with his "special" hen, she is the bully of the coop and I think that is the reason. He is very sweet though. Sorry you are having issues though. I have heard if the cock is much larger or a different breed, some are more aggressive that may...
I have 3 Barred Rock pullets between 7-8 months, all 3 have very different personalities 1 is just crabby, 1 is very skidish and 1 is much more friendly although none like to be touched. They are great layers though with nice size eggs
Hi all thanks for the input but we realized what the issue was.
With the sun setting a bit earlier and their coop in a different spot, was moved a bit in the expansion - my bad, so they couldn't find their way inside. Last night we put a light on they went all in and then we shut it worked...
Thanks for the info, we actually thought the same with our rooster, Martin is very protective and helpful. Will round everyone up when its time to come in from wondering the pastures and watches my every move with the chicks.
We are in South Carolina but can have some freezing temperatures in...
Okay so looking for reasons to their craziness or help.
I have 3 older pullets and Martin who always slept in their coop with no issues.
We do now have 6 - 6 week old chicks who we have recently divided off a section of our run (its huge we expanded for them) so that they can all get used to...
Thanks everyone. We have since shut their heat indoors and are waiting to make sure Jose isn't going to hit us before we move them to the coop but out they'll go in a week or so.
Okay we moved to South Carolina and am new to raising chickens in the south. I have 3 hens and rooster and 6 - 3 week old chicks still inside under constant heat. was wondering what everyone thinks of heating the coop once I move the babies outside in 4 to 6 weeks, it will be getting cooler out...
