Western Oregon-Barred Rock Chicks-Know where I can find them?

Hey folks, I'm in Western Oregon-between Albany and Eugene-and I am trying to find some barred rock chicks. I know it's late to be getting them, but does anyone know where I may be able to find some? I am trying to help my dad get started with chickens and he was a little hesitant, but has...

Great to be back in the flock!

I learned tons from BYC years ago and am having fun getting back into it! I was surprised that after almost 5 years all I had to do was reset my password! Thanks for the welcome, everyone!

Great to be back in the flock!

I'm posting under new members, because I have been away for a long time! Almost 5 years ago, I lost my job, home and had to re-home all 12 of my hens, in order to move my family into a very small rental. After two years unemployment, 3 years in a new job, the birth of the 3rd child and the...

David, Thanks for the reply! I don't mind if people reply here either, I just wanted to give others an avenue to keep names off the site, if they wanted. But hey! if you all want to see each other's answers that works for me too! Brandon

I need help with a paper I am writing about backyard chickens!

I am writing a research paper about keeping backyard chickens and would like to ask a handful of you a few questions. My paper requires me to conduct at least one interview (which can be via email), but I think that I would like to get responses from multiple individuals, hopefully from around...

I got my first egg! EVER!

Yes, this is my first child. I have a funny, beautiful little step-daughter(3y/o), but to date she is still afraid of the chickens, because one of them wouldn't leave her a lone and tried to roost on her head! lol No injury, but a bird like that trying to roost on your head can be scary!

I got my first egg! EVER!

Well, thanks all for your replies to my post. A couple of answers for you that were asked...I have 4 each of BO, RIR and BR. I am now getting five or six eggs a day and new "first eggs" are among them about every third day. The first egg happened at about 15.5 weeks and they are running...

I got my first egg! EVER!

So, I am new to raising chickens, have never had them before in my life, and wasn't really sure that I wanted to take on the task, but my wife wanted them. We got 12 chicks on March 15, 2010, this year. I became rapidly obsessed and the chickens became an intense hobby for me. I have been...

    HELP!!! We have a BEAR!!!

Quote: \\The only way to change that is to keep yourself and your animals in protected accommodations. Kill one predator and another will gladly take its place. Thinking you can kill every predator IVO your coop is not only foolish, it would truly be a waste of time. \\? I actually agree...

    Eugene Oregon suspends chicken limit

Good for Eugene. I live about 25 miles north and was reading a story about the chicken revival that my grandmother clipped from the RG for me. I was wondering when Eugene would come to it's senses(in at least this area). I am thankful that I live in a town that doesn't limit chickens. I have...

    HELP!!! We have a BEAR!!!

Maybe I missed it in previous posts, but have you checked local law on whether or not you can shoot pest animals and wildlife that puts people and property in extreme danger? That's really the only good way to deal with the problem of an aggressively trespassing bear. Electric fences may work...

They won't go inside at night!!

I had this problem myself and figured an easy fix for it. The first night in their new run and coop my 12 chicks (about 9 weeks old at the time) found an old door that I had yet to take out of the run, leaning against the wall. They huddled under that, rather that going through their pop door...
