I thought we might have broken her broody but this morning one of the other hens was chasing her and beating up on her!!! I've pulled her out until I can get home from work and deal with the situation. It's never ending with this flock!
Thank you. I just fought her off from the nesting boxes. I actually had to put the feeders in the boxes in order to keep her out. She finally went to roost. I'm guessing broody too!
She's definitely acting weird but normal. Weird in that she's preening a lot and her vent is working overtime...
Hi:
I have a partridge rock hen that is just over a year old. She went thru (and still is) a moderate molt. A couple of weeks ago I started getting soft shelled eggs. I didn't think anything of it since I've read molting hens can stop laying and/or lay soft eggs. Yesterday when I checked on the...
@casportpony i have a call in to my vet friend to help us calculate the dosage. I'll keep you posted.
Do you have a recommendation on keeping her separated? Or keep her with the flock. It seems that she does better with the flock. I've seen her be more active and eating a little more than she...
Okay. He wasn't very knowledgeable about chickens but he was willing to see her and help. He basically told me to keep doing what I've been doing for a couple more days but to remember that they're farm animals. He's a large animal vet and sees household pets as well. I can call to see if he has...
So I've definitely been getting at least 140ml in her each day. It sounds as if I needed to update the dosage to 1/8th tsp of duramycin based on that intake.
I have her outside with the flock. Would you all recommend that she stay separated until she's off the antibiotic? We're on day 3 out of...
@casportpony she weighs 3.12 lbs. I'm not sure how much she weighed to begin with but she has always been MUCH smaller than the other girls...which is how she got her name Little Girl.
That's what my husband and I came up with. So right now it's safe to say I've been under dosing her. She is a small chicken but still. I've only been giving her 1/16th tsp per cup for 2 days now.
Thank you thank you thank you!
Okay. That makes me really nervous!! I have a hard enough time just syringing in water without feeling like I'm aspirating her. Going to weigh her now.
I agree...it's really hard to know what to do for her. I don't think she has any respiratory issues. I'm being really careful when syringing meds but she does breathe hard while I'm administering the meds. Once we're done with that though she's fine (respiratory wise).
Here's a pic of the duramycin
I'm pretty sure she picked something up either from the compost pile or from a puddle (both of which have been removed from the yard). I have given her a thorough exam and the vet did as well. Unless we're totally missing a wound or something (and that's completely possible), I think whatever is...
