Eggs went from brown to white! Same chickens!

I give them a calcium rich feed as well as a daily snack of collard greens and spinach for a treat. Calcium isn't the problem. Any other ideas?

Eggs went from brown to white! Same chickens!

Thanks, I will check that out. I don't think that is the reason in my case. They are getting plenty of calcium and I still have good strong egg shells, no problem there, and still getting at least 3 double yolkers a day.

Eggs went from brown to white! Same chickens!

Ok, I have 6 New Hampshire Reds that just turned a year old and have been laying brown eggs faithfully since last October. As of about two weeks ago, the eggs are now white. No change in food or environment. And no change in size or quality. Any ideas here?

Heating the Chicken coop in Winter.. Any suggestions

I live in New Hampshire where I raise NH Reds which acclimate pretty well to 20 degrees. I use a 100W ceramic heater which screws into a regular light bulb socket. This does NOT heat the coop but is meant to penetrate the muscles and bones of the chickens which in turn does heat the coop as...

What is your chickens' favorite treat?

I had my girls on the medicated starter until they were 10 weeks old. From there I went to the Grower Mash. I first tried the pellets but they hated it and wouldn't touch it. They started laying their eggs at 15 weeks old and I switched over to Laying Mash. They are now 19 weeks old. I am...

    Winter in New England

My chicks have an insulated picture window in their coop so there is always some light. The street light isnt far from their coop as well as a southern exposure.

What is your chickens' favorite treat?

Sure you can feed your chickens pears. They tend to like most fruits. You can also refer to the snack list https://www.backyardchickens.com/web/viewblog.php?id=2593-Treats_Chart

Pic Of The Week Information (POW)

I am having trouble submitting an avatar picture. Every time I upload one it says too big although it is cropped to 100x75 pixels. What am I doing wrong? Also I would like to enter my coop pictures. Can anyone tell me what to do? I have Vista if that helps.

    Winter in New England

Hi Aubrey, I am in Barrington, quite close to you.. I also have a "vent " window that opens and closes that my girls can see out of when they roost. I DO close that this time of year because they have a plexiglass picture window on the other side.

    Winter in New England

I am in NH also. I have a timer on my light that goes on at dusk and shuts off at dawn. The girls file in when it gets dark. I have left the pop door open so far. They seem quite warm in there when I come out in the morning. It was 22 degrees this morning when I brought them out some...
