They are looking better, although the littlest was still a little weak this morning. I haven't been home since then so I hope she is still doing okay, she was playing with the others and eating/drinking she just was a little wobbly.
I didn't do any assisting, but I think the momma did. She was pecking at the ones that we're getting ready to hatch. They aren't full bread silkie, they are part Rodeisland red. Could that have something to do with it?
Just had my first batch of silkies. I had to take them from the mother since there was already one fatality to a perfectly heathy chick. ( she is separated from other hens by a dog kennel but somehow my girls still reached in and killed her) But I kept the eggs that hadn't hatched under her and...
My sickie just hatched three chicks today but I noticed their bums were wet and when I investigated I noticed there vents look a little strang...this is my first time having silkie chicks so... Is this normal?
Thanks, I'm going to just keep doing what I'm doing at the moment. If it doesn't work I'll try agian...sigh
I'm going to go recheck some of the eggs in the fridge for that Bullseye though.
Also when I ran my incubator before putting eggs in I found the therm to be about 2-4 degrees off so I have one inside the incubator as well. I've adjusted the temp to what it would need to be to have the correct temp.
I am using my own eggs. I have a bantom roo and so I was worried about it, but every egg I have cracked has had the little white dot on the yoke. I may actually be on day 6 then... I've read ALOT about incubating but there is a lot of info and it's not all the same so I don't really know what...
So I have a question and I don't know how to start a new post... so I'm going to ask it here.
I candled today and found nothing! I'm on day 7 I have kept humidity at 45-50% temps at around 100-102 I have the little giant still air 9300.
I have been turning on my own, about five times a day. I'm...
Thanks! I think I understand what's happening. I had noticed a bit of calcium build up on eggs before. All my hens lay in the same place,( not sure why) so they probably have scratched off the calcium leaving the hole. I guess I will try gathering the eggs more often in the day and see if it...
Could be a few things. Sometimes, if a tiny spot of excess calcium deposits on the surface and is scraped away, it will leave a hole to the membrane. It's not too much calcium, just the way it deposits on the egg.

Okay thanks! Are they safe to eat then?
I have been getting a few eggs with holes in them! Like a worm or something went in the egg. I saw somewhere that it can be a sign of too much calcium, my quitsion is if I'm feeding them layer feed and house scraps what am I supposed to do! I've been told that scratch is only a snack and should...
