Hello,
We have a flock of 7 hens silkies, easter eggers, lavender orpington and a Prairie bluebell. They were a year old the end of March. They have never been sick other than one being egg bound shortly after they started laying. All are acting normal, have good appetites. The prairie bluebell...
Thank you! That makes me feel better that it’s normal. This is our first flock and out of the 7 only the silkies started laying so we are in new territory for sure.
We have a 23 1/2 week old easter egger that has not begun to lay yet. Our two silkies are the only ones producing at the moment. In the last two days she has been pacing incessantly in and out of the coop all day long. She keeps going into the nesting boxes then out onto perch then immediately...
1 egg out of 7 chickens! But it was our very first egg ❤️ and it came from one of our two silkies so I’m excited we officially have at least one silkie hen lol
Thank you. Is that the one you see on the right the one that says B? (on my phone they show up on top of one another not next to each other) I’ve not seen how to sex based on leg thickness I’ll have to search for that method. The thicker legs being male?
Hello, first time owner and we purchased two silkie chicks. They are now 5 months and 1 week. Trying to decide if we have one hen and one roo or if they are both roos. B now has a distinct waddle so that seems def male but wasn’t sure on A. They were hatched at same time so seems there a chance...
The good old silky guessing game of “is it a roo?” has been going on for two months lol Does anyone with experience have any guesses. We’ve never had silkies before so really aren’t sure. They look and act pretty much the the same so I’m guessing they are both one sex or the other. They are in...
I believe both. But I’m going to give them a call and make doubly sure. They were from a local place, not online or Tractor supply. It is a pretty large local business though not a backyard small business. They have not been outside yet, only in brooder inside the house and we have had them...
No, they are acting perfectly fine. In fact I only noticed it was specifically her because she was being naughty and flew up and was running around the edge of the brooder while I was getting their food. It was the first time I’ve seen it. I’ll def be watching for more.
One of our 4 week old easter eggers had a bloody looking poop this morning. I noticed one other spot in the brooder. They were supposed to be vaccinated per the breeder. Does this look like Coccidiosis or intestinal lining?
Thanks! I’ll try that brand. The one I found last time was a flock party one and it just sat there until it got buried in shaving from crazy dust bath parties they were having.
