Help! Rooster has hard vent, impacted with poop

Yes, you're right; he was plugged up again today and our method was not so successful, at least not right away. I guess we have to keep working at it and hope that he'll get back to normal soon.

Help! Rooster has hard vent, impacted with poop

Thanks to all your suggestions, my rooster has passed a lot of poop and is eating well today! We did another bath, used the tweezers, and squirted baby oil in his vent, and presto! Though he's lost weight, he seems very well otherwise, and we think he's out of the woods. Thanks again!!!

Help! Rooster has hard vent, impacted with poop

Thank you so much for all of your suggestions! He's crowing this morning, so that's a good sign, but I wrote the post in the evening and it's just getting light out, so I don't have an update yet. I feel more hopeful though! Thanks again.

Help! Rooster has hard vent, impacted with poop

Please help if you can...My rooster was attacked by another rooster and was under a lot of stress. I isolated him to protect him, but he was depressed and upset. After a couple of weeks, I found a new home for the other rooster and reunited this rooster with his flock. He was very happy, but I...

    complaining neighbor

Herechickchick, It's interesting to hear how you're keeping chickens in the city! I've been doing the same thing with cat carriers in the garage, but have to leave for work at 7 a.m. or 8 a.m., so can't put them out as late as you do. I think I'll try keeping them in later on weekends though...

    complaining neighbor

Thanks for all your support! So far, I can't find a noise ordinance that seems to apply to roosters. Just dogs, machinery, etc. The one about barking dogs states that continuous barking can't occur for more than 30 minutes; I don't think that could be applied to the roosters. There's also a...

    complaining neighbor

Does anyone have advice about handling a complaining neighbor? We thought we had girls but ended up with five roos and one pullet. We sent three of the roos back to the farm, but kept our two favorites. One of my neighbors keeps complaining about the roosters. We are building a more sound-proof...

HELP trying to replace son's flock. Looking to buy chicks near CT.

Sorry about your lost chicks. We have three young roosters who just started to crow. They are pretty birds, very nice, and raised as pets. You're more than welcome to have one or more of our little cockerels if you'd like. We're in RI, about 30 minutes from Stonington.

    Connecticut!

I'm in Kingston, RI too; just started with six pullets from local eggs, but four or five turned out to be cockerels! Trying to find homes for most of the roosters and then gen some more hens. Maybe we'll order chicks from the hatchery this time, so our odds of getting just hens will be much...
